Apply a setting to a specific plan.

1- Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , click Control Panel, click System and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.

2- On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings for the power scheme plan that you want to change.

3- On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.

4- On the Advanced settings tab, expand Power buttons and lid, expand Lid close action, and then choose what you want your mobile PC to do when you close the lid, both for when your mobile PC is running on battery and when it is plugged in.

Click OK.

Disable hibernate feature to see if laptop is now hibernate instead of sleep.

1- Open Command Prompt as a administrator.

2- Type Powercfg /H OFF command and press Enter key.

When if you needed to you can enable hibernate feature by typing Powercfg /H ON command.

Make sure there is no program managing power schemes.

Prevent my computer from automatically sleeping visit the website URL link to configure sleep power plan scheme.

Done the settings correctly and done the cmd command, still no luck, not sure if my HP has a program that still makes it sleep when i put the lid down

Would these commands work? Found on a random website:

c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -monitor-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -monitor-timeout-dc 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -disk-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -disk-timeout-dc 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -standby-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -standby-timeout-dc 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -hibernate-timeout-ac 0
c:\windows\system32\powercfg.exe -change -hibernate-timeout-dc 0

If you want you can use those commands but i already suggested how you can do some of the settings manually and few of these command lines will not solve your problem. We have configure your laptop not to sleep when lid is close if still problem is not solved then there must be a program that's canceling all power option settings. The "HP Support Assistant" enables HP customers to discover, maintain, and troubleshoot issues with their HP Notebook computers.

I noticed the same problem when I had my Envy. Everything I did and tried myself still never stopped it from sleeping. I contacted HP to find out when the laptop is closed for a period of time the motherboard has a chip programmed (something to that affect) that the computer will still bypass everything you try and worked so hard to do. To not get it to shutoff. Any ways that's what I was told by HP, rather an employee there. Tech level I'd say the individual was very low. do to some other questions I asked and they were unable to answer. So I switched to DELL. Loving DELL btw.
