I wiped mine not long ago, and I remembered it. I made a backup of my authy stuff with the built in function. Then wiped my phone.
Apparently this doesn't work. You have to have a second phone with authy installed to hold you over while you reinstall it on the original phone. Otherwise even knowing your backup password and verifying the phone number won't work.
Seeing as I only had one phone, that wasn't possible, so I got locked out. I had my backup codes, but it was still a hassle to have to go through all of that simply because I only have one phone.
