What is the purpose of the dropdown?

I guess I am not following 100%...

Why not just like this:
1. Seller registers product on /salesstuff.php, get's an API key for product.
2. Buyer purchases off of mysite.com and puts their UID in a box.
3. mysite.com processes the transaction and then makes the API call (a PM sent to the UID).
4. Buyer gets a PM with the PM text from the API (includes activation code, key, etc).

The seller can then go to /salestuff.php and can see who all purchased his items by clicking a table of products he has registered.
When he clicks it takes him to /salesstuff.php?action=manage&itemid=1 where he can view sales.

I had to reread it, I do like the idea but it would cool for us to make customer serials or enter ones for our systems?

I had to reread it a couple of times as well, although I think this would be an amazing feature to add to the site. Linking a "face" to each purchase to verify for support and to prevent leaking/cracking would be very interesting. Okay so I read your reply on this thread explaining this better and holy shit, that would be sick.

Potentially it would list only approved products that are given access to the tool. So let's say you buy "ABC Tools" from "ABC Member", the dropdown would allow you to select that sellers or his site and when you submit your data it goes only to the hidden page within the php code. You would NOT see anything in your browser except a "Submitted" result on the HF page. It's for security. Also would allow me to charge a small fee from the sellers for usage.

No. At least I don't imagine that's going to happen. Seller can keep the data of the product sale and UID on their own site though.

You should do something else with it too. A suggestion I have is to automatically deny a sale if the account purchasing does not meet the requirements (Should the seller have any)

I think if done right, it could be something awesome that could definitely work - however if done even slightly wrong could be abused.

That's a hell of an idea. I would of loved this back in the day when I was very involved in the marketplace.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is a possibility with the API coming out.

Lets wait and see. 🎉

Sounds like a solid idea. I can't see there being any negatives regarding this either.

When I push the data of the buyer from HF I can include some basic info like their UID, groups, postcount, and maybe a couple other public items. But realistically with the API you would just need UID. Then you can make an API call to get everything you need.

Yes, part of long-term plans.

Maybe if there was a field in the API settings to designate a sales thread so there could be a "verified buyer" tag in the postbit on that thread. Basically it would combat fake vouches in the marketplace.

An addition to that would be "This user received a free copy of this product" tag or something like that, just like how steam does for reviews.

All this API talk is giving me a massive boner. I can't wait.

My best guess, an initial setup fee for adding the product and then maybe a subscription fee (annual?). Would really not be a lot though. Maybe even just a one-time fee for the setup. Depends really on how this gets implemented and the work involved to maintain it all.

We just got the API live so I honestly have my hands full at the moment.

Happy 10th!

Omni, will the API eventually be available to L33t members? Or is it already decided it will be Ub3r only?

That has not been decided.
