My parents didn't pay for college for me and I had to handle it all on my own. I graduated without any debt and money in the bank. There is no reason why tax payers should pay for other people's decisions to willfully go into debt.

The only reason i'd disagree with this:

1. It's been advertised so heavily in the US that you need a degree to get any job anywhere. Not just that, but you need a degree from a certain place as it has more weight than someone else applying for the same job.
You can get the same qualifications in most situations in a much cheaper situation/study place but without that weight it doesn't work - at least that's what they say.

2. They prey on kids to get them these debts, trying to convince/guarantee that it will give them a job in the field they need the degree which just isn't the case.

Okay, but why should I get screwed for not having debt?

In this situation you wouldn't get screwed until the big boys over 500million run out of money.

No it's a pretty firm getting screwed. I spent thousands of hours working during school when I could have done something a lot more fun or doing school work and getting slightly better scores. Just because I did work and don't have thousands in debt right now doesn't mean I didn't already spend the money. I want at least $25k given to me under said plan in order to not be screwed by it.
