I thought you were working with Luke on his byte poker project. Guess I was wrong. Meh.

Really interesting. Wish I could offer more at this point aside from my continued interest on the topic. Good luck with the development, looks promising.
(And yeah, dark theme plz, lol)

Wonder what else we can make with the api

Looks pretty interesting. It'll be cool to see the finished product, although I feel like a dark theme would look good in relation to HF's dark style.

I am happy to announce Gamble, an unofficial HF Gambling website

Since the announcement of the HF API v2 I have been thinking about ways to put the oAuth function to good use.
When the beta got released, it came to mind that current gambling options on HF are not "multiplayer" based except for the lotteries.
The byte lotteries aren't very interactive (and rather slow) so I figured I would make a version I would like to see and use.

Gamble currently has one game which is based on raffles.
Future games will high likely include 1v1 coin flips and maybe even more interactive skill based games.

How it works

Each HF member will be able to login by authorizing Gamble to their HF account using the new oAuth api.
When logged in, members will be able to deposit/withdraw bytes to/from their account.
Each raffle takes a minimum of 2 members. When there are more than 1 members in the raffle, the countdown of 2 minutes begins.
During this countdown, you are still able to place your bet or even higher your bet.
If a bet is placed when the counter is under 15 seconds, the counter will reset to 15 seconds to give other members an opportunity to higher their bet.
Each raffle, the house takes a 5% cut.

Is it secure? Can my bytes be stolen?

When making Gamble, security was one of the first things that came to mind.
Regular user info (like your uid and balance) will be stored in our database.
Your access token (obtained with the oAuth api) will be stored elsewhere though.
What this means is; IF our database gets broken into (this is a very big IF), our byte vault can be transferred to an account meaning you can not withdraw your funds. This will be easy to trace back though.
But since your access token is safely stored elsewhere, the attacker will not be able to alter your user into etc.

When will we be able to play?

The HF API is currently in its beta state. I am waiting for the byte integration/vaults to be added to the HF API.
When these features have been added, I will have to integrate it into Gamble's API and get it stress tested by someone to make sure everything is secure.
I can currently not give an ETA.

What does it look like?

Good to hear!

The website reminds me of Bustabit, combined with Random.org. Very nice!
I fancy this idea, but I am done for a while with gambling. When I'm going to gamble again and this website is launched, I'll definitely give it a try.

Make a dark theme before release or I will not use it. Otherwise, you will get all my bytes via house edge :)

How about the house cut %, is that always 5% or can that be raised or lowered?

It can be raised or lowered. I will change it on requests of the community.
