Depends solely on the payload within the variant of malware. Manually decompiling .Py payloads within Metasploit works great. Swap out words that use "Payload" , "Stub", "TCP" etc. These are all flagged by most common AV's once they attempt to read. Of course Metasploit is not used for botnets but rather much more effective for spearphishing. You can pay for private crypts, worth to note it may help you to use a Loader.

Can also try to use several different protection mechanisms of different softwares. .Net Reactors, Obfuscation services as well. Creating your own tools also helps greatly there for you're not sharing same variant with a 1000 other people.
