If you mixed in a little brown gravy with white rice, it will make it 10x better. I still choose potatoes over rice if we're comparing since it has more nutritional benefits.

For sure potatoes over rice. Certain dishes though I can't imagine considering putting potatoes on. For me rice is filling, but doesn't hold as long.
