I think Costa Rica would be nice, also comes with those tax perks too lol.

I always dream about moving to Spain whenever I holiday there. An elderly relative lives there at the moment who we visit regularly and I’m considering buying the land from her but will let her remain as the tenant until the unfortunate inevitable happens, hopefully not for many years still, but I would like to keep the property in the family.

Today I was looking at Witchita. I suppose I'm a restless soul. I think if it wasn't for my family I would move every 4-5 years. I like new places. I like the feeling of exploring something new. Sometimes it's part of my dreams. I've thought about Texas, Utah, N. Dakota, Arkansas and so many others. Not to mention the cities outside the USA like El Salvador or Costa Rica. Whenever I travel I just can't help but think, "what if I lived here". Vacations are nice to visit a place but I want more. I want to feel like I belong there, that I know the area, that people there know me as a local. Sadly with our short lives most of us will only live in a small handful of places. I envy military kids who got to move around to so many places.

Anyways, this just me?

Not just you. I’ve got so much tying me down to this spot right now, but I often think about uprooting everything and going somewhere else for a while.

Life tends to get stagnant in the same place — even if it is a good place.

I’d like to go somewhere where nobody knows me at all, go by my middle name, and see what happens. Maybe one day.

Not you up in here posting real shit lmao

A lot of shit is stored in the house after living in it 6 years I feel you (I've lived in mine almost 8) we've donated over half of the stuff we have and we are moving with little to nothing as the cost to move everything and then determine if it'll even go/what we want for the new place its easier to start new.

How far away did you move? We are going cross country this time, selling where we are at and then going to airbnb it or 3-6 month townhouse lease while we decide which house we'd like to purchase.

Yeah, as annoying as it was was lowkey a blessing in disguise.

About 25 minutes away, all the way to the other end of town where it's predominantly white as opposed to where we used to live which was mostly East Indian - not for this specific reason of course. Don't think there was a single white family on our block. Only reason we moved really was our landlords just decided to move back to Vietnam and sell their place as-is, kind of forcing us to leave and find a new place.

I think the smartest thing I did during that move was "purge" everything. I got rid of anything old or things I didn't use from clothes to furniture to appliances, everything. I just wanted a fresh start and we'd accumulated a lot of crap over the years and with my car addiction there was just so much car parts and trash everywhere. For example, we don't have an oil disposal place around our old place so our shed had like 15 bottles of fucking old oil from oil changes, tons of stock car parts I didn't even know I had, bare ass tires, etc... Lots of marketplace posts were made and we rented a big steel container for like $200 and just threw all of our trash in there. Made moving a little easier when the loads were a lot lighter, was mostly boxes and few furniture pieces like beds and couches.

You should 100% find a short term lease, feel like living in an AirBnB for a few months wouldn't be very accommodating and end up costing more. I'm sure it'd be a fun little vacay for all you and the kids but I don't know how long you can withstand majority of the AirBnB rules and from what I remember a lot of AirBnB's don't actually allow long term stays.

I'm motivated to relocate, though perhaps not as frequently as yourself and for different reasons (UK taxation takes over half of everything I earn). I have no ties to where I am currently other than my employment, which is mostly remote working anyway. The real challenge IMO is potentially learning another language and the visa/citizenship paperwork.

This is why we are leaning more towards airbnb we have talked to a couple of the hosts on there who are willing to do an extended stay. It would basically us be just paying their mortgage for a couple months and let them profit a bit and not keep all the bnb fee bs with it.

Yeah I guess that makes more sense if you plan on getting rid of everything.

I've moved around a lot and there's something very refreshing about localising oneself to an area. finding the best coffee or little bakery that suits me, discovering the best second hand book stores in the area. wandering through the nearby parks and realising which are worth the extra 5-10 minutes journey.

It sounds so simplistic but it's not a race which is the issue with trying to do this on a holiday. The day by day getting to know a location like it's a friend takes patience.
