I haven't accepted anyone yet, I am waiting for a bit of applications, and I am looking around the forum

I posted on the other thread, but it seems to be dead. I'll post here as well, in case.

Hello. I would like to join this group, because it seems really awesome, full of talent. As well as that, this is one of the few groups that allow new members to apply, which makes me happy as the group leaders actually care about the people, instead of, reputation, awards and posts.

I am 18 years old; from the UK. I'm currently studying I&CT, but thinking about leaving it at the end of the year and move to Drawing or joining the Royal Marines. This is because, IT is just boring, sitting behind a desk typing away. I like productivity, actually doing something.

I have been drawing for 4 years now, and it has made me extremely happy and thoughtful, as it lets me spill my emotions out onto a piece of paper which makes it into a piece of art.

An example is this: https://imgur.com/a/q6wxh

I was thinking about freedom & hope, and how everything in the world is always restricted. I made a bird to symbolise that.

I will posting more drawings soon; will be creating more drawings.

Furthermore, I would like to learn more about drawing and I want to get better and better.

Thank you & Bye :)

Why do I want to learn?
I love seeing artwork in general and especially logo design, typefaces, typography and marketing material. It really inspires me with my work and encourages me to try other art styles and test out new things. I think eventually you hit a point where finding new styles and developing new techniques slows down and to bring it back up to pace being in a group with other learning artists can definitely assist. That is why I want to learn, to further my skill progression and learn new intuitive techniques to make my art better and also share my 'small' knowledge with the other students.

Inspiration (can be people, or pictures, drawings etc. - can include more than one)
Dribbble is a huge platform for me, it gives me inspiration and just the artwork shared on the platform is such a high standard. I can use the search function to find anything and that quick search can instantaneously get my mind thinking and assist in generating ideas for my own creative pieces. Some of my favourite artists on Dribbble are;
  • Luking Luking is a very creative user, his art style is so gorgeous and always captures my eye. His metro style definitely stands out in his 2D work and his creations with the moon and sun glowing are just absolutely insane. I'd love to be able to replicate a style like his.

  • Stelian Vasile Stelian also known as Lecart is a designer who is extremely talented in utilizing typefaces/fonts to create stunning images and specifically logos. I personally believe being able to utilise only text to create a logo takes a lot of skill and talent as it can be very difficult to just make text something original and something enough to represent a brand and/or company. His artwork is minimalistic but very intriguing and each logo takes advantage of special fonts and lettering to emphasise the companies products and meaning.

Do you understand that this might need a good amount of dedication?
I definitely do understand that time and dedication will be needed for me to get the most out of being a student for Riptide's art/designer program. As goes with anything you want to learn, dedication and persistence is key and I can reassure yourself and the other leaders of Riptide that I will provide that dedication, time, persistence and interest.

Why do I want to learn? I need an escape from my computer science studies in my free time. I've played piano for 4-5 years but no longer play it since it's broken. Because of that, I turned into doing thread designs in photoshop. Later I hope to learn how to animate, make quality logos, banners, etc.

Inspiration (can be people, or pictures, drawings etc. - can include more than one)
A sunny day.

Do you understand that this might need a good amount of dedication?
Yes, I do.

Why do I want to learn?
- I want to have a way to express emotions through art. I used to skate back in the day but now all I find myself doing is school and video games. I'm going to school to be a network security specialist (Name of Program), and after spending hours staring at a computer screen it would be nice to come home and work on something personal.

Inspiration (can be people, or pictures, drawings etc. - can include more than one)
- Weather, for me weather plays a huge role in how I perceive the world on that day (i.e. rain = calm).

Do you understand that this might need a good amount of dedication?
- Yes! I have roughly three days a week that I can take up doing whatever I feel like doing. I am prepared to use those 72 hours however you seem fit.

Sent you a private message with the art.

Why do I want to learn?

I'm applying to this group because I want to further improve my knowledge when it comes to design development and also grow as a person.
I want to improve my skills further when it comes to illustration and sketching.

Inspiration:
Alan Watts has always been a huge inspiration for me.
Here is a quote from him: "Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way."

Do you understand that this might need a good amount of dedication?

I do know I need to put some extra effort into dedication. This is exactly what I want to do for a living in the future, and this is the perfect opportunity for me to collect and share my knowledge.
