I would do my best to take legal action since it would be a lot easier than trying to take legal action across the country for someone scamming.

I’d show up to the house, ask for it back and emphasize i’m not leaving them alone until I have it.
Getting physical on their property wouldn’t be ideal, so if it got to that level, i’d wait for the opportunity elsewhere.

Ask for the money back from them and an apology. If they comply well and good.
If they don't call the cops on him and be sure to have enough evidence to back it up and be extra sure that the deal was not for an illegal article.

I'd ask him for my money back, showing him I have his address. If he refuses I'll come back at night and cause $1,000+ damage to his car, house and other items.
