* - Kr4z1 - Feb 8, 2013 You're an amazing web admin Jesse but unfortunately I knew this would happen at least once while I'm a member here. Hopefully you get to relieve some stress soon. * - RULE✓ - Feb 8, 2013 I guessed who it was a few days ago ;) ![]() He never said who i was though he just said stop asking so many questions. * - Givenchy - Feb 8, 2013 (Feb 8, 2013 02:23 PM)RULE✓ Wrote: I guessed who it was a few days ago ;) First thing that i saw about that user. Is the thread still existing? * - Omniscient - Feb 8, 2013 Quote:Wow so he penetrates the security of the site that you do not allow or condone blackhat activity and you award him for it , I am sure the members are in safe hands. Most likely its a another agent friend. I think it's more important that I do everything I can to protect members than him having an open account with a couple awards. And I was forced to close his new account. I'll have to do a better job of hiding his new account. Quote:and i'm assuming we aren't allowed to know who the person is? There are a couple good reasons I don't want his identity known. For one I do not encourage revenge. For another I don't want members asking him for the dump or offering him bribes to dox other members. If he can't remain anonymous here I'm very likely going to not allow him an account which means he can potentially release the dump. Which btw we have no guarantee he won't anyways. Quote:The person was rewarded because he hacked your database and dumped the information of a few users? Wow. I wouldn't use the word rewarded. Quote:Great, he'll be pissed you closed his account. He shouldn't be pissed. I already emailed him and he's aware I want his identity to remain anonymous. Whatever I gotta do for that to happen I'll do. Gonna take some query magic I guess. Quote:I think were going to benifit more from the hack then we lost . Just keep up the work omni. Only if we lived in Bikini Bottom and it was opposite day. Quote:I believe it has been stated that the user was a member, got banned, and is now back, well sort of. He's had dozens of accounts over the years. Quote:the user released db My guess is that even if I did tell him to fuck off he wouldn't public release this. It has more potential for income selling one record at a time. But I'm more comforted knowing that I have a deal in place with him that I can tell members about. I feel it eases the mind of the community a fraction. And anything reasonable I can do to help members get past this incident I will do. Quote:I don't see the logic behind compromising with someone like this because in the end there's no way he's going to accept an ub3r account as full payment when he knows he can make a lot more. Because he earns nothing in a public dump. It's a compromise I feel we need to make. And initially he wanted a lot more. Like a new group for himself. Which I denied. So don't think I didn't haggle in this and set my foot down on what I felt was reasonable. He's mainly just getting an open account which he doesn't have to hide from staff who ban him on sight. He should be able to safely participate here as a regular member which apparently he now wants to do. Heck he might actually be a good contributing member sharing his wealth of knowledge. Lord knows we could use some extra quality members. Quote:To be honest, I never thought someone like you would give people second chances especially after they did this. Nevertheless, you did what you had to do and out your members first. If it was only info or something only damaging to me I'd tell him to fuck off. But this effects members. They come before my personal feelings or pride. Quote:You misewell make a sticky saying hack the forum and you will get what you want. If you hack HF you should imho get something anyways. At least a cookie. In the past I've granted awards to those who have hacked the site. Wouldn't be the first time I've shown respect to those with enough skills to best me. Why shouldn't I at the very least respect what he's done? Sometimes when you get beaten it's better to congratulate the victor than act like a sore loser. He got the DB through artful means. How can I not respect that? * - Givenchy - Feb 8, 2013 (Feb 8, 2013 02:30 PM)Omniscient Wrote: If you hack HF you should imho get something anyways. At least a cookie. How can I not respect that? I can understand this , you most to be skilled guy if you hacked HF and don't release the upgrade DB. I still respect him because he don't post it public. Nice shit that you dealed so it not happened. * - adampelletgun - Feb 8, 2013 Hopefully the perpetrator can remain anonymous so we can avoid any further problems. * - 'Cody - Feb 8, 2013 Just a FYI if anyone wants my information make sure you get a good deal on it :) * - Daring - Feb 8, 2013 Omni, don't you think it's about time you closed the thread? Nothing good can come of further discussion * - deafness - Feb 8, 2013 Awesome! Glad u and that person able to made a deal in exchange. Thank you once again, omni, for doing ur job and keep us updated. * - Morchid - Feb 8, 2013 Now I'm curious who this person is. I hope he does the right thing. * - Mastery - Feb 8, 2013 Why didn't you just pay him off omni, get him to sign a legal document or something stating he would release it & he will delete it off of all computers it is on. * - 'Cody - Feb 8, 2013 (Feb 8, 2013 02:48 PM)Mastery Wrote: Why didn't you just pay him off omni, get him to sign a legal document or something stating he would release it & he will delete it off of all computers it is on. That would never happen. He's a blackhat hacker... * - 4x4 - Feb 8, 2013 (Feb 8, 2013 02:30 PM)Omniscient Wrote: Because he earns nothing in a public dump. It's a compromise I feel we need to make. Lord knows we could use some extra quality members. You're right about the latter part no doubt. I bet he actually will contribute a lot to the community with his vast knowledge. You're also right that he earns nothing from a public dump, that's why I fear him selling it. But shit, not much we can do about it other than the action you took anyways. I guess I was under the false impression that he was "milking" the situation a little bit. * - webdev77 - Feb 8, 2013 I think this little event can be considered over now. HF should remain fairly safe and I would hope that all goes well in negotiations with said user. Spoiler (Click to View) * - Accident - Feb 8, 2013 I don't want the fucker back on the site. Let alone give him the gratitude of being able to be in presence of awards. |
