RE: Thread Ratings - iNviZ - Mar 9, 2019 I always liked the ratings but I see why people complained about them. RE: Thread Ratings - Kill Joy - Mar 9, 2019 Doesn’t bother me from a mobile perspective of course. I wonder if turning the system into a popularity/hotness system would work. 0-9 posts - 0 stars 10-24 posts - 1 star 25-49 posts 2 stars 50-99 posts 3 stars 100-249 posts 4 stars 250+ - 5 stars RE: Thread Ratings - iNviZ - Mar 9, 2019 (Mar 9, 2019 08:33 AM)Kill Joy Wrote: Doesn’t bother me from a mobile perspective of course. I actually like that idea. Maybe not in the marketplace though. RE: Thread Ratings - TCP - Mar 9, 2019 I liked them, I hope they will be back If a product is good it will sell, no matter the stars number RE: Thread Ratings - Night Fury - Mar 9, 2019 Dang, I liked them. I'd look at a 3-starred thread as one that was controversial and probably worth reading. Example: (Feb 25, 2019 08:22 PM)Dr. Einyel Wrote: PS: Idiot NKVD underrated (stars) my thread. What an asshole. Stupid communist, ignorant. (Mar 8, 2019 11:11 AM)Omniscient Wrote: Well, seems like if people are paying for ratings with Bytes that's actually useful right there. Gives Bytes just another purpose. And I spent some time going over pages in Marketplace of low and high rating threads and imho it was mainly accurate. The 1 star threads were truly crap and the 5 star threads were the better threads. Sure, there was gang ratings and pay offs but overall everyone could rate a thread and most threads were rated fairly over time. This seems like a general truth outside of the marketplace as well. Any way ratings can just be disabled in the marketplace alone? Then again, other e-commerce platforms like eBay and Amazon have ratings on all products. There will always be competition in a free market. Fallacious reviews can be removed on Amazon, so could something similar be done here? In this case, if someone was to not purchase a product but give it a rating, that could be a warnable infraction. Or, is there any way you could make it so only threads with contracts attached to them can be reviewed by users involved in the contract? It would be similar to Amazon's "Verified Purchase" feature. Those ratings hold much more weight than the non-verified reviews. RE: Thread Ratings - dredos - Mar 9, 2019 Like someone said before, only buyers (contracted buyers/vouchers) should be able to rate the thread in Marketplace. Outside the marketplace, it should stay like it was before. The replies are already shown on forumdisplay. The folder icon also represents "Hot" topics already too. Looking at the forumdisplay now what I would consider changing is those folder icons. We could potentially make them a sprite and also larger. EDIT: I just went into DB and deleted all existing thread ratings. Would be awesome to see the red/hot thread icons get a makeover based on this. Get darker as the posts increase or something like that RE: Thread Ratings - SIM-888979 - Mar 10, 2019 (Mar 9, 2019 09:55 AM)Night Fury Wrote: Or, is there any way you could make it so only threads with contracts attached to them can be reviewed by users involved in the contract? It would be similar to Amazon's "Verified Purchase" feature. Those ratings hold much more weight than the non-verified reviews. Too much work for too little impact. The reviews and B-rating are what should matter, not stars. Doing this would only dilute the importance of the other factors. Sure, there was gang ratings and pay offs but overall everyone could rate a thread and most threads were rated fairly over time. Enable thread ratings but only allow a rating to be posted for "X"-amount of bytes. This means people will still be able to post ratings if they feel so inclined, but they'll have to actually use a resource thereby reducing the likelihood of spammed ratings and so forth. Maybe even make it pretty expensive, so only people who really want to give a good thread 5 stars will be inclined to do so. It would also drastically reduce the number of threads with ratings, both giving good threads more visibility as well as preventing the ratings being an eye-sore. RE: Thread Ratings - Elysium - Mar 10, 2019 I’m a little conflicted or perhaps just indifferent about this change. On one hand I think it leaves the forum looking a little bland but on the other hand I feel that the majority of thread ratings were either paid for with bytes or a way of retribution from other members. RE: Thread Ratings - mrnapolean1 - Mar 10, 2019 Disable them for just the marketplace? I agree with you the forums look a lot plainer now.
