DDoS Protection and review - Refrigerator - Jul 20, 2011

UPDATE: If you would like to read my thread about FREE DDoS protection click here, https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1505730

So I think this should go here becasue it deals with protecting from attacks but it deals with hardware too.

For a while now I have been the point of attention for a few major DDoS attacks on my website and servers I run at home. Now I tried doing a lot of software protection but nothing really worked so I found a better way of protecting from ALL DoS and DDoS attacks, It might not be the cheapest way for you all but it works.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833182063

I thought that when I bought it, it might slow attacks down and just do general protection but I am very happy with what it has done already. The unit its self is very light not much more than my router, and is very small. I was thinking it was going to be a big bulky device but it is very nice. It has a very nice web interface and unlike other hardware I have tested it really doesn't cut the speed down too much. On my home network I have seen about a 3-5Kb/s decrease on upload and download speed which is really nothing. Most people wont even see it.

The logging looks like this, http://pastebin.com/NMz9KCAX You can also change what it logs like I have mine to log, Connections to the Web-based interface, operations (startup, get time etc) and Known DoS attacks and Port Scans.
But it can also find Attempted access to allowed sites, Attempted access to blocked sites and services, Port Forwarding / Port Triggering, and Wireless access

The price was well worth it as you can see I have had a few attacks and I am still online and I hit 48 hours a couple hours ago 😉

Looks good, 500$ is pretty pricy though.

I don't mean to judge here but did you even read the whole thing? That wasn't even 30 seconds? With the price comes protection I would say the price is a 😠 ton but I think it was worth it.

I read most of it yes, and I understand you get what you pay for.

I bet it works great.

Looks interesting. I don't think it would be worth buying for me since I'm just a kid :D . So have you been attacked, since you bought it?

Yes about 13 attacks now and I had another member hit me up a little while ago and there was zero lag.

Oh wow, its pricey, but with all that it has to offer, the price would be worth it, but only if your protecting a valuable asset.

WHOA! Wasn't expecting it to be that pricy, but if it works and you need it, then I suppose it's worth it.

Windows 2000 DDoS mitigation software firewall:

Linux DDoS mitigation software firewall:
http://www.rfxn.com/projects/advanced-policy-firewall/

Those might help as well in coalition with the hardware firewall. 👍

There are some that are under 200 dollars but they are crap, this one was cheap too there are some that run over 3000 dollars.

Well yeah but there are 2 down sides to that, the first is it takes time like you got to call support tell then whats going on why you want your new ip etc. The second is here my ISP when they renew your IP it disconnects you for about 30 seconds. Now I think that is a ton of work for something that could be avoided in the first place.

Kind of pricey but worth it, i just setup my router with the free method you posted hopefully it works.
