Dynamic Images In Signatures - Omniscient - Aug 22, 2011

In order to clarify our stance on dynamic images in profiles I've added the following to the Profiles Help Docs.

Are we allowed dynamic sigs such as counters or image rotators?
No. You're not allowed to use dynamic sigs on HF. They can be abused and normally slow the loading of pages. So we ask that you do not use dynamic images in your sig. This rule also applies to avatars.

So this is now clear to those using counters and image rotators. Warnings for profile violation are 10% for one week. And staff regularly suspends a members signature for up to a month for violations.

I understand that rotating signatures are not allowed, and ones linking to PHP scripts. Does that include ones like my "chat-room" signature which links to a .png image, not a script (but changes, nevertheless)?

Wait.. are you talking about .gifs? Or the ones that change every time you re-load.

He's talking about the ones that when you refresh the page it changes.

I'm wondering the exact same thing. GIFs are dynamic images.

So can we have .GIFs as avatars or no?
Oh well, good update.

* - Existence - Aug 22, 2011

Will do, I never even had one in the first place so I'm all good.
You also might want to add that it's not allowed in avatars either.

.GIFs are not dynamic images. They're animated images.

They don't use a script to load the image, it's just an image.

Dynamic is another word for constantly moving/changing so it can be classified as a GIF.

So I guess I should change my signature.

Thank you for making a more clear response to my thread. I appreciate it.

I really wish this wasn't the case. I enjoyed having multiple images as signatures. Imo it showed all the creators that I valued their work and was a refreshing item when I or anyone else looked at my profile.

Good to see this one finally official. When you think about it there's so much room for abuse with them especially it it's a rotating one.
