[How-to] Create Custom Caller/SMS Ringtones For Your iOS Devices [No Jailbreak Req] - Inventor - Sep 4, 2011

I have seen someone requesting for a similar guide and I thought it would be cool to share this little trick for you guys. It's quite easy to do so and there is no jailbreak required to do this.

In this guide, I will be guiding you how to trim a full song to its part where you want it to be as your ringtone, till you are able to set it as your ringtone. Everything will be done within iTunes.

Requirements:
  • iTunes

  • A song

  • iOS Device

Steps:
  1. Import the full song into iTunes. It will appear in your music library.

  2. Right click the selected song, and click "Get Info".

  3. In the pop up box, click on the "Options" tab.

  4. Use the "Start Time" and "Stop Time" to adjust where should the ringtone starts and ends. Probably around the chorus. Click "OK" when you're done.

  5. Right click the song again in your library, and click "Create AAC Version". Once you clicked it will be creating another version of the song which only plays the selected timeline you chose earlier.

  6. For faster lookup on the AAC version of the song you just created, I recommend you clicking the "Recently Added" playlist on the left. It should be appearing as the first one. Play it and confirm that it only plays the selected timeline you chose earlier.

  7. Right click the AAC song, and click "Show in Finder" for Mac, or "Show in Folder" for Windows (i think). It should open a folder which contains the AAC version of the song.

  8. Rename the file extension from .m4a to .m4r. Doing this on a Mac should be pretty easy, but on Windows if you have "Hide Common File Extensions" ticked, you should untick the option in Folder Options before renaming the file type.

  9. Once you have your song renamed to .m4r, simply drag it into your music library. A "Ringtones" tab will appear under your Library and you should be able to find your newly created ringtone inside.

  10. Make sure you tick "Sync Ringtones" on your device page. The tab is between "Apps" and "Music". Apply to sync.

  11. Go to Settings > Sound and select which ringtone you want it to be set. Tap on it and you're done!

  12. Make sure you deselect the "Start Time" and "Stop Time" on the original song after this. Else it will only play the selected timeline when you play it later 😝

Hope you find this guide useful. Please reply to keep this thread alive, even a simple "thank you" will be really appreciated.

Yep, unlike the caller ringtone which the custom ringtone is stood on top of the list, Text Tone's is rather below.
