trigun is quite slow but has really good action and story.
Steins;Gate and Madoka Magica have really good stories themselves with equally good suspense/action.

You should check out Gurren Lagann. I felt that had an excellent story including a lot of comedy and a lot of heart felt moments. I can easily say it's one of my favorites.

If you liked DURARARA then you will love Baccano! It was made by the same guy and you often see it in posters or playing on monitors during the DURARARA series. Its more violent and about mobsters in the 1930's. ^^

1. Clannad and Clannad Afterstory
2. Steins;Gate
3. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
4. Ano hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

I actually did read it but the only thing that stuck to my head was the good story and worth watching parts. I apologize though, since he stated action first. I'll be sure to re-read posts again before replying.

No probs, only reason i say is because i have seen people recommend clannad and then the person dropped it because they were looking for an action, no-one should drop clannad lol. ^^
