Introduction to Remote Administration Tools

A Remote Administration Tool (a RAT) is a piece of software that allows an operator to control a system as if he has physical access to that system. The operator controls the RAT through a network connection. Such tools provide an operator the following capabilities:
  • Screen/camera capture or image control
  • File management (download/upload/execute/etc.)
  • Shell control (from command prompt)
  • Computer control (power off/on/log off if remote feature is supported)
  • Registry management (query/add/delete/modify)
  • Other software product-specific functions

Its primary function is for one computer operator to gain access to remote PCs. One computer will run the "client" software application, while the other computer(s) operate as the "host(s)".

Port Forwarding
  • How do I portforward my router?
  1. Press the Start Button, then select " Run ".
  2. Type in " cmd ".
  3. Type in ipconfig in cmd
  4. Enter the IP from " Default Gateway " into your browser.
  5. Enter your ISP Gateway's credentials and login.
  6. Go to Portforwarding / Firewall Setting.
  7. Enter the port you want into TCP & UDP.
If that doesn't work, click here.
  • How do I check that I'm portforwarded?
  1. Go here.
  2. Enter the port you want and hit enter.
  3. Check if you're port is open
    • If it's saying - Timed Out, open your RAT.
    • If it's saying it's open, you have successfully portforward.
    • If it says it's connection is refused, you didn't do it correctly.

Crypting
  • What is Crypting?
    • Crypting is the act of encrypting a binary's file code with an algorithm such as RC4, or the changing of the binary's file signature. If you want to know more about how a crypter works, you can check this thread out - here.

  • How do I get a crypter?
    • There's two ways you can get a crypter, either you get it from here or you buy one from the Marketplace. Before buying any crypters, make sure it's both Scantime and Runtime and it should be Fully Undetectable too.

Great thread, thanks! Do you know of any guides that explain exactly what different RAT features do? Options like 'melt' and that type of thing. I know some of them are kind of self explanatory but I'd like to know a bit more about the different functions.
