My Startup disk is full? - Gpure - Mar 19, 2012 ![]() ![]() How is this possible?? * - Hookah - Mar 19, 2012 You've obviously downloaded so many things that your Hard Disk is almost full. I'm not exactly sure why you posted this to be honest. Just delete like 40 GB worth of stuff and then you'll have some breathing room. Although that is easier said than done, I might add. Good luck. * - Gpure - Mar 20, 2012 (Mar 19, 2012 10:57 PM)Hookah Wrote: You've obviously downloaded so many things that your Hard Disk is almost full. I can't find anything in finder that is more than 1 gb worth of memory. * - Beastie - Mar 20, 2012 finder might be wrong; try 'df -h' in terminal. if you have mackeeper, it has an awesome utility that shows you big files... * - Gpure - Mar 20, 2012 Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/disk0s2 232Gi 228Gi 4.2Gi 99% / How did I use up this much?? This is after I deleted all of my files * - PregoPastaSauce - Mar 20, 2012 If you have deleted more than 20GB in a single sitting you need to do this: Disk Utility (Search in Finder) < Select Disk on left < First Aid < Verify Disk < Wait till its done < Repair disk If it says in big red letters you need to use Disk 1 repair because the repairs are > 100GB, you need to go find the disks that came with your mac and find the one labeled Mac OS X reinstall and repair disk and boot your mac from that. If not, then your basically done, now go back to disk utility < first aid <Verify disk permissions < repair disk permissions and you're done :) ~DJ * - Gpure - Mar 20, 2012 (Mar 20, 2012 09:37 AM)The DJ Tec Wrote: If you have deleted more than 20GB in a single sitting you need to do this: How do I give you a hug. Thanks so much for the reply. But it didn't really do a lot. I can't find any of the big files in finder. How can something be taking up 200 gb? * - Beastie - Mar 20, 2012 i made e a shell script real fast first launch this: (as root, so 'su' first) PHP Code once this is done PHP Code will list files larger then 200mb, "+200k" change that part how you want :p to be launched in a terminal emulator. * - PregoPastaSauce - Mar 20, 2012 (Mar 20, 2012 12:04 PM)Beastie Wrote: i made e a shell script real fastGod Damnit it beastie xD Why do you have to be such a "beast"ie?! :D xD ~DJ * - Gpure - Mar 20, 2012 Can i run that in terminal? What do you mean by a terminal emulator? Thanks. Oh my god, the list is literally going on forever. Wow, so how do i delete these random files.. * - Beastie - Mar 20, 2012 the Terminal.app is a terminal emulator on Mac OS X. yes you can copypaste the commands there. you shouldnt have a big list there. then put a bigger size than 200mb and so on... you should be more careful when downloading stuff :p to delete the files in terminal run rm -rf <file or directory>, but you can put them in the trash directly from the Finder. DJ, thanks :) shell scripting really helps sometimes... * - Gpure - Mar 20, 2012 I can't find any of these files in finder... Should I just clear my hard drive? Honestly it sais i have 600k files on my disk but in "All my Files" under the Finder it only brings up like 3k -___- * - Beastie - Mar 20, 2012 dude the script i showed you shows the full path to files. * - Gpure - Mar 20, 2012 (Mar 20, 2012 06:32 PM)Beastie Wrote: dude the script i showed you shows the full path to files. Most of them are necessary for Mac. would this work? sudo find . -size +800M * - 3xo - Mar 20, 2012 You use SSD right? Your hard drive is not full, it just appear full. Its how SSD work, and there is an issue with compatibility between MAC OS and SSD at the moment and i don't even know if apple know it. |
