[ Tutorial ] How to Make 3D Text in Photoshop CS4 [ Tutorial ] - Sir - Apr 14, 2012 Written By: Starstruck How To Create 3D Text in PS-CS4 First thing you're going to want to do, set your size and background. For this tutorial, I selected 500x500 as my size and "White" as my background. After doing this, I will insert my text. For this tutorial I'm going to use Alliance. Here's what I have so far: Spoiler (Click to View) Next, I will "Right-Click" on my Text Layer, and select "Rasterize Type." If you look carefully, you will see that Rasterizing the type will alter the thumbnail. It will change it from the "T" representing a text layer, into showing the entire word with a transparent background. After doing that, I will select the layer where I inserted "Alliance" as my text, and go to "Edit" then "Transform" then I will select "Perspective." Selecting "Perspective" will allow you to alter heights and widths of the selected area to change what of course is described as "Perspective" or visual distance. For this tutorial, I'm going to enlarge the left side of my font and shorten the height of the right side. Here's what it looks like so far: Spoiler (Click to View) Next, I'm going to start adding some layer copies, as to create the effect of 3-Dimensions. To do this, I will select the "Alliance" layer with my mouse, then press "Alt+Left Arrow" 15 times, in order to create 15 layer copies. While doing this, you will notice the "Alliance" text get bulkier. After deciding how many copies you would like (more copies = more thickness) you could merge all those layers by clicking the first copy then "while holding Shift" click the first copy. This will highlight all copies of the layer. Then, right-click one of the highlighted layers, and select "Merge Layers." This will clean up things a lot for you. Next, I will select the layer that holds the copies, and right-click it and go to "Blending Options." I will then add a "Gradient Overlay" to give it a nice effect. I will then apply "Bevel and Emboss" as well as "Contour", and "Satin." After completing those steps, I will move the Copies Layer under the original layer. Which will start giving you a view of how it will become 3-Dimensional: Spoiler (Click to View) Approaching the final step, you would just have to select a gradient to match the previous one. I'm just going to use the same gradient as I just used, as to make it look metallic. I will then select "Satin" and "Gradient Overlay" and Drop/Inner Shadows. Here's the Results: Spoiler (Click to View) Easy right? Just thought I would share this, in case anyone learning Graphics didn't know about this. Hope it was useful. * - Text - Apr 14, 2012 Thanks for the awesome tutorial. This is my result. Spoiler (Click to View) * - Tidas - Apr 15, 2012 How do you do this in CS5? Alt+leftarrow does nothing and making copies manually doesn't seem to work. Yes I have the text layer selected. * - Irignation - Apr 15, 2012 The quality is quite horrible. And Photoshop CS5 has a 3D tool built in it, so why not use that? :p Thanks for the great share nonetheless! * - Grape - Apr 15, 2012 Good tutorial, always good to have! Learned me something new today. Thanks. * - Sir - Apr 15, 2012 (Apr 15, 2012 12:23 AM)FridgeFry Wrote: How do you do this in CS5? Wasn't doing it to make something beautiful, was doing it so CS4 users would know how to set it up. * - ven0m - Apr 16, 2012 nice tut bro. I will try it now. Great tutorials buddy +rep. * - Sir - Apr 24, 2012 I never said it was gonna be great quality, C4D is the way to go when it comes to makes dimensional graphics. This is strictly just a tutorial for CS4 PS, as CS5 has a feature that makes it really simple to design 3D graphics, where CS4 clearly takes a little bit of time. * - Snow. - Apr 24, 2012 I know I just said what I think still nice tutorial buddy didn't blamed you or something :P * - Sir - Apr 24, 2012 Didn't say you were, I was agreeing that C4D is the best way to go. :P |
