Just Got A Suspicious PM..... - anυвιѕ - Jul 11, 2012 Hey HF, I wanted to know what to do about this PM I got. I went reading the Help Docs, and found it okay to report PM advertising, but this isn't the case. I got a PM from the user "gitt613" (https://hackforums.net/member.php?action=profile&uid=1360302). And the content of the message was the following: "I want this site hacked, their database of users, just names and email http://www.gamevance.com/ it's online game community let me know, i can pay $300 for the job" This is obviously a spam message, but its the link that worries me. I took a look at it with a simple link scanner and found nothing, but I do have my suspicions. I checked his rep and saw someone already -neg'ed him for spreading the link and claimed it as a JDB. Should I report him for attempting to infect members? Or do I need to wait and see if someone can confirm its a virus? I'm only concerned for the security of the members of HackForums. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks * - Geld - Jul 11, 2012 You should wait for someone to confirm it is a virus.. I hope people dont get infected :/ * - нα¢кєя - Jul 11, 2012 I got this too ,this guy is Spamming Pm's . Report it to a staff . * - Quiet. - Jul 11, 2012 Did you even bother to Google it or was making a useless thread your first reaction? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090119054625AACecFh * - Sloth - Jul 11, 2012 I don't think that the link is infected, but you can report him for spamming. * - Positive - Jul 11, 2012 Report it to someone below: They should take care of it. * - Phytrix - Jul 11, 2012 It is adware. After a quick google search, I found this. Yes, it is adware. Gamevance is free gaming software that you can download from it's web site - the problem is that any game you download comes with constant popups that take up most of your screen. Apparently advertisers pay this web sites for their "services" - which means the popup ads are included with the free games. So, the bottom line is if you don't want your computer to be plagued by popups, don't download any games from this web site. * - RDCA - Jul 11, 2012 Actually, in America GameVance was the top detected malware, specifically adware. Affecting 10% of all computer cleaned. For the end of 2011. * - anυвιѕ - Jul 11, 2012 Alright, well ill report him for spamming. Thanks for the information guys. Sorry I didn't do any research before posting, but ive never dealt with something like this and didn't know how to react. * - Positive - Jul 11, 2012 (Jul 11, 2012 02:14 AM)RDCA Wrote: Actually, in America GameVance was the top detected malware, specifically adware.
