Tutorial

Step 1
Load up the picture provided, and create a new layer on top of the background.

Step 2
On your new layer, select the PEN tool, and make your lines around the girl.

You can have yours however you like, I like to have the little thing off the top sometimes.

Step 3
Now, press the B key, on your keyboard, and set your brush to something like this. Don't make it too big, or too small. Color I'm using for my brush is "dcdcdc" without the quotes.

Step 4
Now what yo:u want to do, is right click your pen lines, and click "Stroke Path..."
Spoiler (Click to View)
Once you've clicked that, select "Brush". This should end up looking something like this:

Step 5
Now, create a new layer and make a new brush size, I used something around 100px. Choose a few colors, and do something like this:
Spoiler (Click to View)
Make sure there's some sort of over-lapping going on, like in mine.

Step 6
Now, find your two layers, make sure the colors are above the first stroke we did. Now, hold your cursor between the two (on the line) hold the ALT button, and click.
Spoiler (Click to View)
This should merge the two layers together. Now use an eraser, to erase the lines that you'd like to put behind her. I wouldn't stick with one eraser size, because when I did the headphones, I used size 8px maybe. It just depends what part you're doing, just keep the hardness on 0. If you do it well, it should turn out like this:

Step 7
Step 7 is do whatever you want to improve.
Maybe add some blur, more pen lines or anything. Have fun!

OP, I did all of the steps as instructed but when it came to creating the clipping mask between the two layers the lines didn't disappear behind the girl? What do I need to do?

I may have forgotten to make a step, erase the lines that you want behind her. Sorry, I'll add that, wasn't thinking straight.
