Protect Against Skype Resolvers. - TheCl0wnhelper - Nov 11, 2012

Hey White Hats,

I'm testing out how to protect against a skype resolver by using a SOCKS5 proxy i found on HMA. How long does it take for the resolver to find this proxy?

Thanks for your help. Also, if anyone has any other methods.

We can't really answer that question since it would depend on the resolver technically.

It's not about time I quess, most resolvers would not be able to get the correct IP. (Not sure)

Wouldn't it be better to:
Go to the Connection Tab in Skype, change 'Automatic Proxy Detection' to 'HTTPS'.
- Get a good proxy, maybe hidemyass.com
- Try and find a proxy in your country, or a location close to you, this will make you lag less.
- Copy the IP address of the proxy, and paste it into the host box, copy the port, and paste it into the port box.

Proxies won't stop the method that I use for skypeget. We worked hard to make sure it cannot be stopped therefore you can't hide from skypeget or any of our api customers.

I use my VPN.

Close Skype,
Login to VPN,
Open Skype,
Login to Skype,
End VPN without disconnecting it.

Retains the VPN IP for me. Might just be the way my VPN works though, not sure.

Would that also mean that your tool would still be able to get IP's through a VPN?

The VPN is the only thing that can stop it however, disconnection like the user above said will not help. You must stay connected to the VPN at all times.

I am not too familiar with Skype Resolvers but lets say I use Skype on my regular home connection, then before I close the computer, I quickly log onto the VPN and log-in to skype.

Would the IP that pop up on your resolver be the VPN's IP. What I am trying to say, would the IP that appear be the IP that it was last logged in from?

I would get the home IP and the VPN IP. My method grabs all ips in the last 24 hours.

I see. I don't think there are many resolvers like that, I assume. Or correct me if I'm wrong. 😝

Use Imo.im to communicate with internet people...you will log on via their servers in america somewhere and if they try to ddos they will either need a strong botnet which will take down everything or they can't take you down.

There are a few resolvers which grab previous login ip's in addition to the current one.

Nothing like it that I'm aware of. We are the only one here on hf that can do this.

Use a proxy or use a VPN. This will for sure change your IP adress.

Enter a proxy onto Skype, check Skype settings.
