problem cracking hash - nullsnapcase - Dec 25, 2012
Hi, I have the following hash Im trying to crack:
root:$1$vgFAuS5b$vyeWgoWb0I.xSp409sR1B0:14886:0:99999:7
John says its an MD5. Its off a centos box. Im trying to use hashcat but I keep getting errors. Any help?🎉

The hash is md5crypt so look for md5unix when trying to crack. Also check out cmd5.org and insidepro.com forums

Thanks. Ill check them out. JTR has been running for 4 days with no success so far. Ive tried to use Hydra but I keep getting "line length" errors. Any idea?
Hello again, quick question..the same issue seems to happen on the above ref sites. Is there something I should remove from : root:$1$vgFAuS5b$vyeWgoWb0I.xSp409sR1B0:14886:0:99:7 before searching? Ive tried removing the date/time fields at the end and the uname with no success.
ok when using cmd5.org i get cb6c0ba5d9f025bf02f2f5fe53eb755c so is this the unencrypted version of the hash that I need to crack?

Ignore the other stuff
cmd5 doesn't seem to have the plaintext available so you are better off posting it on the insidepro pay 4 cracking FORUM section.
