Review:

Plot:

Oh, plot. Immortal Regis had a fairly unoriginal plot. A boys brother is sick with an uncurable disease, and he wants nothing more than to live the rest of his life with his brother. His life takes a turn from that, and he works the rest of the time to get back to his brother.

Not particularly interesting if you look at it just from that.

However, once the details are met, there's a slightly more original plot. The world created in Immortal Regis is violent, yet elegant. Strict, and hard to live in, but still wonderful. There is a strange aura about the location -- Chaos.

My biggest complaint is that so many things weren't explained. Almost everything wasn't explained. The manga should have been a lot longer when going at that pace.

Characters:

The characters are fairly stereotyped. Actually, I can't say that completely. The reason it's unfair to say that they aren't stereotyped is that almost no one got a huge amount of character development.

Characters seemed like they were going to be extremely vital to the story, then they were never heard from again.

The main character was a fairly normal character, but his motives were different than usual.

One thing I will say, is that there was a lot of mystery surrounding a lot of characters, which I personally liked. There wasn't anyone you could trust, but at the same time, they were so appealing. Each character that entered the scene really made you want to learn more about them to see what they were like.

Thoughts:

After a few chapters of this, I made a huge connection that I couldn't get out of my head after I thought of it. Harry Potter. If you've seen or read Harry Potter, than you will make connections with this the entire time. It is pretty much a Japanese version of the story, with slightly different concepts.

Despite it being so similar to Harry Potter, the action in it was actually better in my opinion.

The action scenes were fun to watch, and they even gave a valid excuse for the typical Shonen "Huge illogical powerup when in danger".

There was a certain charm about this that made me not want to stop reading, and I finished most of it in one night.

Sure, there are plenty of flaws, the biggest being that it ended way to early, without explaining a lot of things, but something drives the reader to continue reading the entire time.

It also has a sequel, Cavalier of the Abyss, which most likely will provide more information, and help clear up some issues.

One big reminder if you read this, is that it is Manhwa. That means it's read left to right, which I didn't know when I first started reading it (I was completely thrown off).

If you're bored, and want a good fighting/magic manga, then go for it.

My Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★ 7.5/10
