Why would anybody pay 10 bucks for a pair of socks? I'm an avid Jordan and Nike collector and I just use the store brands socks from Finishline.

Same reason someone would pay $150 for a pair of shoes. Style, public image and the general consensus that how much you pay for something has some relevance in how people see you.
