List of new features in PHP 5.5 - iBones - Mar 21, 2013 https://gist.github.com/nikic/5213689 An interesting read if you're into PHP. Looks like the mysql_* deprecation indeed made it. * - SIM-1419016 - Mar 21, 2013 The choice to drop Windows XP support was pretty stupid, imo. * - iBones - Mar 21, 2013 (Mar 21, 2013 12:28 PM)Timmarus Wrote: The choice to drop Windows XP support was pretty stupid, imo. People still using a 12 year old OS probably don't care about the latest and greatest. * - CarrotMilk - Mar 21, 2013 Function calls in empty() - hellz yeah! And new cURL opts as well ^.^ * - Eight - Mar 21, 2013 The biggest update was probably adding generators, I wish they had added array comprehensions though. There were some rumours but it looks like they didn't add them after all. * - ManDoR - Mar 21, 2013 The finally blocks will also come in handy in some situations too. * - elitr - Mar 21, 2013 Finally mysql_* is deprecated, secure websites here we come :) Function calls in empty() is awesome too. Hopefully all hosts roll it out quickly when it is released. * - VIOLENTLY_LOVES_POTATOES - Mar 21, 2013 (Mar 21, 2013 03:21 PM)elitr Wrote: Finally mysql_* is deprecated, secure websites here we come :) Pretty amazing, they still teach those at school here, awful. * - SIM-1419016 - Mar 22, 2013 (Mar 21, 2013 03:31 PM)VIOLENTLY_LOVES_POTATOES Wrote: Pretty amazing, they still teach those at school here, awful. Well I assume they'll feel quite silly when they find out it's deprecated :3 * - iBones - Mar 22, 2013 (Mar 21, 2013 03:31 PM)VIOLENTLY_LOVES_POTATOES Wrote: Pretty amazing, they still teach those at school here, awful. When I was in high school and they were teaching HTML (2009-ish), they were really rocking the <font> tag and tiled backgrounds. * - Poppins - Mar 22, 2013 (Mar 21, 2013 12:28 PM)Timmarus Wrote: The choice to drop Windows XP support was pretty stupid, imo. Why? It's 12 years old. That's fucking ancient. Why should they continue putting effort into supporting an OS that was around before the internet exploded? There's no reason not to upgrade anymore. Can't afford 7? Awesome cause Linux is better anyway. |
