This tutorial is dedicated to The Empire.

What will this be useful for?
Unfortunately, some people have common sense and simply won't trust a .exe without an icon. It looks incredibly suspicious, and rightfully so. However, with the added benefit of an icon, you can get your slaves to execute your stub quicker, and with more confidence that it is 'not a virus' as they so suspected.

What do I need beforehand?
  • Qicon Changer (Can be found here.) It is made by DarkcoderSC, the same coder of Darkcomet.
  • The .exe/stub you wish to change the icon of.
  • The ability to read.

Installing Qicon Changer

Download it from here. Open it up. It should look like this.

Click "Next." Now it should be:

Pause here, click "I accept the agreement" and then click "Next." This is insanely difficult, isn't it?

NEXT.

Now, we are going to do something different. Click "Install." Once that is done, this screen will eventually pop up.

Uncheck "view readme.txt" and check "Launch application".

It will show up as shown:

Why is it so simplistic?
DarkcoderSC made it simplistic, I'm assuming, just because he didn't want users to get lost as a plethora of options often do. Also, it is something that can be easily done in Resource Hacker, but he made a tool for it. So nice of him.

What do I do now?
Well, you drag and drop your .exe onto the application. If you did it right, something should show in the left box marked, "Application". If not, then you did something wrong. You will also drop your .ico onto the application. It, like the .exe, will show under the box, albeit on the right side, marked "Icon". Once both of them are there, hit "Apply" and you are done.

Where do I get some .icos?
.ICOs are icon files. They can easily be found by a simple Google search, but my favorite site to get them at is located here.

What if I want to convert an image to a .ico?
This can especially be useful for Ewhoring, for a more...ahem, revealing, tantalizing icon in order to get them to open it. Once again, you can just Google search "jpg to ico converter" and you're bound to get results. If you are too lazy to Google it, here is a link to one of them. http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-ico

HALP!! I CLICKED APPLY BUT IT DIDN'T CHANGE.
This is a common problem. Sometimes, your desktop/folder doesn't 'refresh' and therefore, doesn't show the updated icon. Fortunately, you can just hit F5 and it will. Enjoy.

After I changed the icon, it no longer worked after I crypted it.
You should ONLY change the icon after you have crypted it. It has a likelihood to corrupt the stub if you don't. Don't worry, just crypt your stub, and THEN change the icon.

This tutorial sucks. You did X, Y, and Z wrong.
Come PM me about it.

Vouch for Lakai! I have had him set up stuff like this for me before. The guy knows what he's talking about.

OT: Great laid out tutorial Lakai.

No offense to your thread but using Resource hacker to change icons is much simpler and time saving.

* - Phoeni✘ - May 4, 2013

Does this also change the icons of a crypted output given by a AutoIT crypter?

Because resource hacker fails to do so.

Another great tutorial from Lakai. Good job man.

Resource hacker changes the icon of an encrypted output from AutoIt, I know because I've done it.

It makes the .exe non working after changing the icon with RH.

I even addressed this.

Some people may be confused by Resource Hacker, and that's why I made this. Partially for people to be aware of DarkcoderSC's other programs, and the fact that it's simpler than it looks.

Weird... I haven't had that issue.

Try his way of changing the icon then.
