What is the best C/C++ compiler for Linux? - Weather Man - Apr 3, 2010

Can someone tell me a good C/C++ Compiler for Linux, I use Ubuntu, I would prefer the Compiler to have intellisence.
Thanks,
Moterrac.

Search for Code Blocks. that's very reliable ide i've used on linux.

I think you mean IDE. Try BlueFish, Code::Blocks

Nobody uses BlueFish...I think its pretty cool for a Graphical IDE.

I have had nothing but problems with C::B. Nothing seems to compile correctly and I always have problems with it not finding the compiler. Dev-C++(or anything) is better IMO. vim + gcc is good too, I don't write GUI apps though

Dev-C++ is an antique and shouldn't be used.

@OP netbeans and eclipse are worth looking at. also gedit with plugins can be very nice.

IMO: gcc + geany = win.

gcc / g++ ... and kate (it has some cool features) or just gedit :D

Well, obviously gcc/g++.

I've changed my opinion on the Dev-C++ slightly due to what lamerlord said (drolremal[cl]). While I still think it's a hideous IDE, the only thing that needs updating is the mingw compiler, which you can just do yourself...and should know how to anyway if you're using it.

I'm liking it a lot...although I don't fully understand how its intellisense-like thing works. Sometimes it pops up showing something, other times not. lol

I'll take a look at it.

Bluefish, gcc/g++, geany

Use Code:Blocks with G++

* - bblokar - Apr 4, 2010

You can try tcc. Its lightweight and simple.

Code::Blocks or G++/GCC!

Thanks for all these responses, it's really helped me. /thread.
