Well, is it possible to download Google Play Store apps apk to the
desktop instead of downloading it directly to my device?
It's a big file and I can't download it to my device. It just fails. How
do you think can it be done?

What is it for application? Are you sure it isn't the gamedata in it?

Search file on google and add .apk on end.
Like "angry birds .apk"
When Its downloaded just put it on Phone.

Connect to Wifi on your phone if the connection is the issue. If it will download on the desktop then over Wifi should be fine
