Corrupt GPT Table fix?? Need quick fix please. - cameronp - Jun 28, 2013

Does anyone know a fix for:

"The backup GPT table is corrupt, but the primary appears OK, so that will be used."

I really need this fixed. It came about when I was trying to dual boot Windows 8 with Chrunchbang (a Debian based distro), it was all fine, until I accidently wiped my original Windows 8 partion when I installed the GRUB...

Anyways, anyone know a fix for it?

Thanks in advance.

I will have to say that I have never ventured across messing/reparing my GPT partitions.

Have you looked into repairing them with some commands?

I have tried some commands to fix it.
Apparently I don't have gdisk on my machine at the moment. And I haven't had a good enough wireless connection the past week to install it.

But thanks still, I will be attempting to use those when I have a better connection.

Are you sure you wiped the WIn 8 install? I dual booted and grub just couldn't find it, I used disk-repair and it fixed the issue, try that.

Yes it was completely wiped, I did try windows repair and it did fail.
I went back and used gdisk to rewrite the GPT table and that fixed it but wiped all my data.

gdisk /dev/SDA w for anyone who wants to know.
Verify it first using the v command.

Well thank you for the tip, but I'm sorry to hear it got wiped.
