Wayland The New Display Manager - The.Bronze.Shroud - Jul 5, 2013

Has anybody played with this yet? Going to fire up a virtual machine later on with something Ubuntu based and see if I can install it and report my findings here. Bare in mind, its not close to complete and maybe there is some kind of MIR beta going I may try that. If I can't install Wayland I will use Arch Linux and search the AUR because I am sure some one has packaged it.

So who has played with it so far? 🤭

First of all, Its Wayland, not Way land.
I tried it. It works great with latest GNOME, backwards compatibility with X works as well. Most of the time user doesn't see the difference between X and Wayland, but it fixes some limitations of X. My favourite X's unfixable bug (limitation) was how flash plugin was never in sync with firefox, and if you scrolled the window you could see it slowly catching up :D

But in the end, mir is going to "win" because Ubuntu has all the users.

Sorry i was on my tablet and auto correct is enabled and it kept sticking a space between the two. Ah yes, i notice that on my old RM machine but no issue with Luakit. Thanks for the feed back. Really cant wait to try it out.

Quick Edit. On my desktop now and fixed the space between the Way and the Land.

I want to try it but I think I shall wait till it comes on Ubuntu 13.10. I got my system on 13.04 working nicely, just not in the mood to experiment.

Does it make any sense to try experinting with it in VMware ? I mean can you get a good feel for it there ?

There is only one way to find out. I do feel like the results wont be accurate in a VM. Don't have machines going spare for real testing yet. When I feel like its ready I may try it on my main laptop. Bit of a delay so will try it tomorrow I hope if I am not busy.
