Website concept design. - Duncanrp - Jul 12, 2013

Hey forum. So I am trying to improve my webdesign skills all the time and better my efficiency as a designer/developer but when it comes to planning out designs I am the worst at it. I have seen a lot of people creating PSD templates first and then constructing the website from that. I have a few questions regarding this:

1. Is this more efficient?
2. What dimensions do you use for the canvas size if you are wanting to do this?

Thanks.

1) Yes, you can plan out the design before you build so clients can see how the final product (the site) should look.
2) I use 1024 x 768 and I always use the ruler tool (Ctrl + r - drag out the rules onto the canvas) to create a 960px wide guideline. Because I design all my sites at 960px depending on if they're supposed to be responsive or not.

BUT either way, you'll be stuck with the same problem most likely. You won't be able to create a design you're proud of and want to build.
