I know in UK prices are higher, but I am pretty sure that regular laptop HDDs cost less. If the hard drive is failing, there is nothing you can do but backup your data and replace it. It will stop working at some point whether you want it or not. * - FrankServices - Jul 20, 2013 You can try to make a format as well and see if this will help you. If this does not help I am afraid that your hard disk is counting down until its end. * - Corso - Jul 22, 2013 If possibly, avoid 5200 drives, as well as Western Digital Red and Green drives. * - Xycon - Jul 22, 2013 +1 avoid 5200 5400 5900, get 7200 or 10k or even an ssd * - Corso - Jul 22, 2013 Xycon Wrote:+1 I've never seen a 5900 personally... So that can't be too stable, lol. Anyway a SSD might be a good option if you have some money. However i you need something cheap I'd grab a 7200 RPM Caviar Black Western Digital with 500 GB or 1 TB of space. That's just me personally at least. * - Xycon - Jul 22, 2013 well since its an laptop, an 3.5" hdd wont be possible i'd get an western digital scorpio blue/black http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%2050001306%20600003340&IsNodeId=1&name=Western%20Digital the data, put it any desktop as second hdd and copy the stuff ove you could connect it to any external enclosure and use it as external hdd and copy stuff over burn the data to an cd/dvd right now copy the data to an usb stick there's so much options.. also there's even 5700 btw * - Corso - Jul 22, 2013 Xycon Wrote:well since its an laptop, an 3.5" hdd wont be possible Good catch, thank you.
