Switched my home network from WEP to WPA-2. Wi-Fi cuts out every so often. - ɱᴏʀƗɑɭ wᴏɱƄɑƗ - Aug 15, 2013 Hey, I switched my home network from WEP to WPA-2 w/ AES encryption. Now my Wi-Fi cuts out every 20 min, forcing me to look for Wi-Fi networks, and then actually connect to my SSID again. What gives? * - PinkPanther - Aug 15, 2013 First things first, how is the signal? How many bars? * - Mad76e - Aug 15, 2013 It is also interesting to check with inSSIDer. What were looking for is what channel the other routers around you works on. If many routers are running on the same channel as your router, if so, this could be one of the reasons you losing connection to your router inSSIDer = Windows Airodump-ng = Linux * - ɱᴏʀƗɑɭ wᴏɱƄɑƗ - Aug 15, 2013 When I re-connect, it's 5 bars (the best connection possible). This never happened when I had WEP. All the Windows laptops work fine, just not the Macbook. * - PinkPanther - Aug 15, 2013 Ok then, are other devices losing internet too? @Mad, I like inssider for windows. Its pretty neat. * - ɱᴏʀƗɑɭ wᴏɱƄɑƗ - Aug 15, 2013 (Aug 15, 2013 01:05 PM)PinkPanther Wrote: Ok then, are other devices losing internet too? Nope, just that one device. Very frustrating. * - PinkPanther - Aug 15, 2013 Can you check device manager to see if the wifi card has power management checked. That could make it disconnect. * - Mad76e - Aug 15, 2013 ɱᴏʀƗɑɭ wᴏɱƄɑƗ: I cant help you, i have no knowledge in MAC, sorry * - PinkPanther - Aug 15, 2013 You could try this page https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3193367?start=0&tstart=0 It might help you if you're running a mac. * - ɱᴏʀƗɑɭ wᴏɱƄɑƗ - Aug 15, 2013 (Aug 15, 2013 01:20 PM)PinkPanther Wrote: You could try this page Will try this now, thanks brother(hood) 😎 * - Vikhedgehog - Aug 15, 2013 If nothing works, switch to WPA-AES or WPA-TKIP. There are rumors that TKIP is crackable like WEP, however it's only possible to get the MIC and to DOS the router but most hackers would stop bothering after a dictionary attack failure. You should be safe with TKIP for another few years 🙂 My router is buggy as hell when using WPA2, but with TKIP it's working fine. RE: Switched my home network from WEP to WPA-2. Wi-Fi cuts out every so often. - zammie - Apr 15, 2026 Switching from WEP to WPA2 is like using Morse code alphabets—stronger security signals are being enforced, but if one setting is misconfigured, the connection can intermittently drop just like a broken transmission. |
