Borrowed Book from Libary, not sure. Learning VB.NET! - Shanks - Aug 21, 2013

Best way learning VB.NET?

I recently got very interested in coding, and I decided to learn VB.NET.
I have checked tutorials on Youtube and builded some programs WITHOUT knowing the language, so I decided to borrow a book from the Libary.
Book: Spoiler (Click to View)
Looks pretty good but the age is like.. from 2001 so it's very old and just by "scrolling" the pages I could see that some stuff seems very old, but there are probably some shit I could learn from it.

Should I read it, not all of it but some?
Should I get books online instead? (this was the only one we had in our libary)
What's the best way to learn VB.NET, understand the language?

Free online books?/Paid only books? links?

Thanks HF.
/Shanks

Beginning Visual Basic 2012 by Bryan Newsome is a pretty good book, I purchased and read it some time ago.
I'll PM you a download link.

I'm not sure how you can claim to build applications with out knowing any of the language. Stay away from youtube videos. You don't know the language so not in a position to know if whats being taught is correct. Just because something compiles does not mean it's correct. Reading the book wont do any harm but i would strongly advise getting a book from atleast 2010.

Wrox.com are very user friendly.

Well, you see, I was just like him at one point,
I would build a GUI without ever coding anything.
This made me feel accomplised until that wasn't enough
anymore, and that's what lead me to learn C#, and later on
start programming with C++ (maybe).

And about the YouTube video part, I do suggest staying away
from videos that have kids on them. Usually they'll give you
wrong information, and help you form bad habits. One person
I do suggest you look into though, is TheNewBoston, 1 Google
search can help you find his .NET series.

Hope I helped just a little, happy coding!

I had the same problem at first, the way I went about it was that I first I learned VB 6 to build my base then ported into .NET
