Requesting & Elevating Privileges in Visual Basic [n00b friendly] - T e s s e r a c t - Sep 20, 2013

*DISCLAIMERS: 🎉

  1. This is my original tutorial no matter how many times ways you put it.

  2. Not recommended for children.

  3. No part of this publication may be reproduced in any form or by any means without the prior written permission of the publisher (me, r e f l e x).

  4. Not responsible for direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages resulting from any defect, error or failure to perform.

  5. This product is meant for educational purposes only.

OK basically, what this does is gives your Application Administrator manifests which means the application can change anything to the system. Kinda easy and hard to do but WORKS... Please indeed reply if you liked & or need help.

STEPS WITH A VISUAL:

1. Open up Visual Studio, Visual Basic etc.

2. Navigate to the Contextual Menu Bar and find the "Project" tab then select: "<Your Project Name Here> Properties..."

3. Now find the Button that says "View Windows Settings"

4. A bit of coding 😝 (Yes this language you are seeing is XML.)
Now it gets "difficult", hit the Shortcut Keys: CTRL + F and Switch Tab to Quick Replace.

(click the little blue drop down arrow)

5. Now Enter the Following Code into the Following Quick Replace Boxes.

Find these lines of code:
Code
<requestedExecutionLevel level="asInvoker" uiAccess="false" />

And then immediately replace with:
Code
<requestedExecutionLevel  level="highestAvailable" uiAccess="false" />

6. After this step, click the Replace Button and Save. At this point your application will have administrative privileges by giving your Application an Administrator Manifest. Now please, saying this again, use this with RESPONSIBILITY AND FOR THE GOOD OF EVERYONE AS A WHOLE.

Thank you HF 😁 Code Responsibly!

And this requires no entering of passwords?

If your referring to UAC, then of course you do if you are a basic user - for example, the Guest account must have access to an administrator password or else the user cannot have elevated privileges.

I use UAC all my time in my update and installation forms! That's the only way to replace the initial files in the program files folder.

I still discovered this PRIOR to the link you provided by over several months. I posted ONE YEAR before that bootleg tutorial you just found :D

It is my intellectual property - I chose how I share it and I have almost a whole year in advance. This XenoMuta probably stole the idea from me. 🤝 Good day.

Thanks for showing this to me @ Perceive

Turns out UAC was a massive crap from the begging off. Yet another great idea ruined by ms.

Probably you dont have even realized that what Perceive have posted is an exploit wich creates a new admin account and does not have nothing to do with your easy as hell, documented, and basic manifest settings. 😑

This is not a privilage "exacalation" is just about decide what privileges are required in order to run the application. There is nothing to "discover" about this and the only intellectual owner of this is Microsoft itself.

So you knew about this already I presume? And since I believe what you say is true, the post is slightly irrelevant without any description. It's just a link.

At this very point in time, I don't care. I just wanted to share the knowledge for those who don't know and that is why I am here & posted this tutorial.

"So you knew about this already I presume? "

Are you kidding me??!??! Everyone knows about manifest since UAC has been introduced with Windows Vista. You need to update dude.
Is Microsoft itself that document this...

Nothing bad posting tutorial, but is not about exacalating rights, nore a private "intellectual property". Olso i dont think someone need to ask permission to you to write something on this procedure. 😅

I've been using this since 2008 and its nothing new, the user will still need to accept the permission, also it may throw an error "a referral was returned from the server" in the newest versions of windows (windows 7 and 8).
