Amazing Coding Languages - SIM-2015410 - Nov 19, 2013 Hi HF, i wanted to make a thread for all those languages that no one has ever heard of, and yet are actually great languages! Here are some of my favorite unknown languages, check these out: - Haskell - http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Haskell - Scala - http://www.scala-lang.org/ - D - http://dlang.org/ - Haxe - http://haxe.org/ - Clojure - http://clojure.org/ - Ioke - https://ioke.org/ - Nemerle - http://nemerle.org/About And then some more amusing languages: - LOLcode - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOLCODE And a great wiki about all the esoteric languages, some of these are truly amazing. Like CHEF. Chef is amazing 🙂 http://esolangs.org/wiki/Main_Page Hope you find this thread interesting and/or informative. Feel free to post any other languages you think deserve a mention :) * - Eight - Nov 19, 2013 D has recently started getting some publicity thanks to the 2013 DConf. Facebook's also been push it lately. I really do hope it takes off. * - g4143 - Nov 19, 2013 You forgot an important family of languages. The ML family of languages of which Ocaml and F# are part of. * - ~Dec - Nov 19, 2013 DogeScript is rather amusing. A basic HTTP server: PHP Code http://zachbruggeman.me/dogescript/ * - Eight - Nov 19, 2013 ^ thanks doge Seriously though, I can't believe someone actually took the time to make it. * - ~Dec - Nov 19, 2013 More importantly, the open source static site / SPA framework I help work on, Roots, supports it (In the latest pre-release). :D * - SIM-2015410 - Nov 19, 2013 Oh yes, thanks g4143. F# is a really useful language, I often use it whenever I don't want to use c#, when my projects get to complicated. * - ForeignPolicy - Nov 19, 2013 it still amazes me these languages exist and yet no one, including myself, have heard of them. * - SIM-2015410 - Nov 19, 2013 (Nov 19, 2013 07:33 PM)ForeignPolicy Wrote: it still amazes me these languages exist and yet no one, including myself, have heard of them. Thats why i made this thread :) you should check them out...lots of great languages are hardly known about. I urge you to check out haskell. the tutorial is called "Learn you a haskell for great good" - but its in perfect english haha. its a purely functional language, and actually really cool. * - NotSoDeadHead - Nov 20, 2013 These languages really aren't that unknown, the users of this forum are not exactly a prime demographic. :P Hopefully this thread will inspire at least one person to look at a decent language... * - g4143 - Nov 21, 2013 (Nov 19, 2013 07:33 PM)ForeignPolicy Wrote: it still amazes me these languages exist and yet no one, including myself, have heard of them. These languages are present and used by some of the best coders in the world. I know for a fact that Ocaml and now F# are the preferred tools for certain software solutions. * - SIM-2015410 - Nov 21, 2013 (Nov 20, 2013 11:56 PM)NotSoDeadHead Wrote: These languages really aren't that unknown, the users of this forum are not exactly a prime demographic. :P Exactly why i made this thread 👍 * - Anti - Nov 21, 2013 I have only heard of Haskell, Scala, and D. |
