should i turn my computer off or just leave it on? - icrackaboy - Nov 19, 2013 my computer kind of sucks and theres times where it doesnt turn on for days, but when its on it runs just fine, should i just keep it on all the time in like a standby mode or keep turning it off? and BTW im too cheap to buy a new computer * - Corso - Nov 19, 2013 Turning machines off when not in use is a good habit. Means no processes or junk can happen when you're unaware. Also means heat and just general wear and tear doesn't kill the systems life span. However, it's up to you. * - icrackaboy - Nov 19, 2013 (Nov 19, 2013 07:02 PM)ɢʀɪɱ Wrote: Turning machines off when not in use is a good habit. But you can cut down startup times drastically by going through your MSCONFIG and disabling unnecessary items (startup tab mainly). Also you can disable the boot animation in MSCONFIG which helps slightly. There are more ways too, but you get the point. * - Jonross - Nov 19, 2013 Keeping your system on all the time won't hurt it like you think. The components are built to last awhile. * - m4dh4ck3r - Nov 19, 2013 Turn it off when you are not using it . If you want to download stuff , Get yourself a Raspberry pi . * - Corso - Nov 20, 2013 Jonross Wrote:Keeping your system on all the time won't hurt it like you think. The components are built to last awhile. It does actually eat away at the life of the machine, as standard cheap machines are not meant to be run like a server (on all the time). Just saying. Also it's the hard drive that's taking the biggest beating, as it has to keep rotating and that is a key item to not have fail out. * - Im gone brah - Nov 20, 2013 (Nov 19, 2013 08:14 PM)ɢʀɪɱ Wrote: I would, it's better for the system. Have you cleaned the registry, defragged the hard drive? Even running this program will help: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner * - Corso - Nov 20, 2013 Zayne Wrote:Look hows back, Ol'good corso. Keep it up.You caught me red handed! It's good to be back. Yes running CCleaner and doing a system Defrag are also great options! * - Hyxzer™ - Nov 20, 2013 I've had my computer for 6 years and I leave it running almost 24/7 |
