New Forum: mySQL - Kansas - Dec 20, 2013 Forum Details
New forum: mySQL Forum parent: Programming, Coding, and Languages Forum icon(s): Spoiler (Click to View) Why should it be added?
Every day I find myself answering mySQL query questions in the PHP Development forum, which is okay, but I think for the amount of questions pertaining to mySQL that we have, we should have a sub-forum for it. Search Query showing 42 pages with 20 threads per page (approx: 840 threads) ( using these options: http://prntscr.com/2cojmk )

I'd go with "structure". * - Tutelary - Dec 20, 2013 Please provide 100 recent threads to prove there's enough activity to warrant a section. * - Kansas - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 01:35 PM)Tutelary Wrote: Please provide 100 recent threads to prove there's enough activity to warrant a section.Someone didn't read the entire thread.. 🤫 * - ShadowRi5ing - Dec 20, 2013 Neat idea, I agree that there should be a section for Database languages in general, not strictly MySQL. * - Tutelary - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 01:36 PM)Kansas Wrote: Someone didn't read the entire thread.. 🤫 Recent being the keyword. Spoiler (Click to View) That's on the last page, supposedly the most recent one is from 6 days ago. The section would be dead. * - Haxalot - Dec 20, 2013 I think it would just be nice to have a database-centric subforum - it shouldn't be specific to any particular type of database. * - Kansas - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 01:39 PM)Tutelary Wrote: Recent being the keyword.I feel as if, if we had it, it would open up discussion quite nicely is the thing. * - Tutelary - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 01:43 PM)Kansas Wrote: I feel as if, if we had it, it would open up discussion quite nicely is the thing. "If it was open" is not a valid excuse to my criticism. A section has to have enough activity as it is, with a simple keyword in the title and tons of activity. Sections are in it for the longhaul. There are not that many people talking about MySQL on HF incessantly to warrant a section. * - Kansas - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 01:45 PM)Tutelary Wrote: "If it was open" is not a valid excuse to my criticism. Can you supply 100 current threads? that are 2013, with activity-- (2 weeks old minimum atleast) * - Kansas - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 02:18 PM)Chief Wrote: I find most of the above thread rather old. Also, its for web dev not programming, are you even familiar with the language? * - Kansas - Dec 20, 2013 (Dec 20, 2013 02:25 PM)Mint. Wrote: Already a section here:To combat your assumption about me I'm fluent and I will prove it if need-be in the following languages - PHP/mySQL/JavaScript/jQuery/Mod-rewrite/Python (and HTML/CSS which I don't consider programming/coding langauges) And I've used mySQL in programming before, considering PHP/Python are programming languages. mySQL is a very versatile database type. And I'm aware of the website construction forum, and to me its somewhat of a joke-ish forum coming from an actual web developer (Sites I've made - http://gcorner.co.nf/ | http://linklance.us/ | http://wiztec.org/ | http://revolutionarypvp.com/ | http://cubecraftz.net/ | those are just the live ones, I've also developed a blog as a learning project and things like csv formatters, etc.) So that's my rebuttle.. * - Viral Dragon - Dec 20, 2013 OP: Normally, for a section ( a new one anyway) to be granted...it's customary to have 100+ recent threads within the last 2 weeks alone. So for the last 2 weeks: https://hackforums.net/search.php?action=results&sid=a8d227c2ac65cfa8afeeae2ea8c567b5&sortby=lastpost&order=desc And just for fun, a month: https://hackforums.net/search.php?action=results&sid=b68cdffbbd95f4d2f48e91568d5840a6&sortby=lastpost&order=desc -- As you can see, not even a single page. More like half of one. But...let's get even nicer, and go further. We'll extend the results by 3 months. Far beyond what's normally accepted. -- 3 Months: https://hackforums.net/search.php?action=results&sid=e48059d7ad0d1818ffe9a07d49ce62de&sortby=lastpost&order=desc ALMOST 2 pages worth. By far not even close to the required 100+ threads. -- But as a fellow web developer, I could see where you are coming from. Sadly HF has standards/rules. ._. Though I do agree, if a section was opened for a more centralized in general and not just mysql, then that might bring in more activity for it. -Viral. * - 'Snorlax - Dec 20, 2013 How about going for SQL instead of MySQL? Big difference. |
