uTorrent is trustworthy, but what you download may or may not be trustworthy. Just be careful when downloading torrents off the internet.

Well I don't get why it wouldn't be....

* - Gasp - Jan 18, 2014

I was just wondering. I've used it before on my old computer but it never bought any issues although my brother seems to have convinced himself that its malicious.

Thanks for the replies.

This exactly. A lot of torrents are packaged with viruses, however the uTorrent program itself is safe and legitimate.

WARNING: Person-To-Person Programs
  • I'd like to inform you of the risks of such actions and choices. Although there are legal torrents, more often than not P2P programs are used for illegal downloads and often times have very high risks.

    WARNING: Illegal Downloads & Software
    • It is also one of the most common ways for malware to spread and infect machines. Key/serial generators or cracks are some of the most common items to have malicious software embedded into them, as they often pop false positives even if they have no malicious intent or items. So when they do come up as infected, they are often ignored or allowed anyway. To find out more, you can review the following links for more specific details:

Your brother has probably downloaded malicious torrents, so it is really his own fault.

This is the best answer you'll get.
Think if it's really worth to use uTorrent before starting a download.

* - Dropbox - Jan 18, 2014

i think utorrent is one of the best torrenting clients
i would recommend this to everyone, however it also depends on what torrents you download
be sure to check the seeders and reviews before downloading something

As Corso says, uTorrent is a trustable torrent client. The only danger using it, is the torrents you download. So if you use your brain and Common Sense 2k14, you won't get infected when download torrents.

Thanks for the vouches, I think it's a good enough post to have some good information and proof to convey the points needed.

uTorrent itself is safe, however torrents have a high risk of being infected. Download always at your own risk. The highest seeded one isn't always the better one.

* - Gustav. - Jan 18, 2014

Corso's reply is the best one you'll get. I am beat to even reply with something better a the moment. Take care and steer clear from P2P programs in generally.

If you are wanting safer download alternatives, newsgroups are probably the best thing out there. With that being said, those services are often paid for.
