Can you crack the code? [Challenge #5] - CRACKED! :D - TheDubWubCub - Jan 25, 2014
Hello HF! :D
The prizes are light this time due to the previous contest haha.
This time, I've decided to have 3 codes and a final message to be cracked for $5 each! :D
Feel free to either PM me or post your solutions; only one winner per code though. >:]
Thread will be closed after everything has been decoded.
Next contest won't be for a while, so go ahead and take a vacation haha. ✌
Previous Challenges:
Challenge #1
Challenge #2
Challenge #3
Challenge #4
Good luck to all of you and happy cracking! 🎉
Hint:
This one hint contains the secrets to this whole challenge.
It will be the only main hint given, so good luck to you all! :D
(I suggest using crypo :D)

Hint:
ng is in their specific order!
Below are the hints for each code, deocde them and all can be revealeved.
1.
ALL DRAWINGS HAVE THEIR OWN NUMERICAL ORIGINS.
PORTA+EXAMPLES+PROFILEPIC
2.
FREQUENCY ANALYSIS HELP: REPEATS = 90 DEGRESS
3.
AA = BA = CA = DA...ECT.
Good luck to all of you! :D

How it works:
By examining the examples that were given, you can notice that 1 picture represents 2 letters.
The message had 5 pictures meaning 10 letters, 12 counting the appropriate spaces.
Of the 5 drawings/pictures, each had a message on it which you are able to see if you either tilted your screen or edited them.
"Don't let the drawings distract you too much, for it's the origins that matter."
This would mean to search for where the pictures originated from.
A simple google search of the image would reveal it's from xkcd.com.
Each image has it's own page/web address, which were just numbers, (522 126 327 137 34)
It is crucial that you decoded the hint because it guides you in the direction to look for one of Porta's ciphers.
"PORTA+EXAMPLES+PROFILEPIC"
"Examples" refers to the names of input, "code", "cipher", & "secret".
Google search, "Porta code cipher secret", reveals the exact document I used to encode the message.
"Profilepic" is referring to mine, which says "21" and putting 2 & 2 together with porta's cipher.
Hopefully then you would have started the table/grid with the #21 and go all the way up to 696.
Now you are able to successfully decode the message. :D
Code 2: - Cracked by: Skull OwnZ!
The Code: - sits with a flag

Example 1:
Input: opposite day
Output:

Example 2:
Input: banana
Output:
https://i.imgur.com/UhlQmjP.png
How it works:
Pretty much just a polysubsitiontional cipher. :D
All 26 letters of the alphabet get there own symbol.
The twist is when a letter repeats, the symbol of that letter is rotated clockwise 90 degrees.
This would mean there are 4 symbols for each letter of the alphabet.
That's it! :D
v Code 1: - Cracked by: Lutan!
The Code: - waiting to congratulate you
XJCCWUG IO RCUYSUOGMUYE NJU
Example 1:
Input: listen by the words
Output: UBMYSN AY BME LGVWS
Example 2:
Input: not the speaker
Output: CIT BME IUFLPWR
How it works:
I really like this one! :D
First make sure you know the english alphabet... :P
Say your message is "Hello"
First replace "H" with the # of shifts of the letter to it's right.
A different way to think about it is:
Convert the letters to numbers: H e l l o = 8 5 12 12 15
H = 8, e = 5, l = 12, l = 12, o = 15
Starting from H/8, Shift as many times as the value to the right of it (e/5), which would be M.
(Caesar shift "H" 5 times = M)
Keep doing this until you get to the last letter.
Go ahead and caesar shift L 15 times, but leave the last letter alone.
From what I can tell, you can't decode if you include the last letter, I'm sure there's ways around this but oh well. :D
"hello" will now become "mqxao".
Now you know :D

Um so do we have to solve all three codes and the final message to win a prize or just one code? Thanks :)

You'll get a prize of $5 each for cracking the codes...
Code #1 = $5, Code #2 = $5, Code #3 = $5, and Final message = $5. :D

Vouch for this dude - he delivered my prize instantly.
For Code 2 - The way it's worked out is.
Firstly, you use the first two pre given images to help you out. Which give away the words "o", "p", "s", "i", "t", "e", "d", "a", "y", "b", & "n".
Observing the words, you can tell whenever a word is used twice the symbol rotates 90 degrees to the right.
Using this knowledge you can tell already that the code is "sits ?it? a ??a?"
You then observe how the letters change as they go up, for example we see the letter A was a straight line, and moving onto B it becomes a wiggly line. From this, you can tell the letter at the end of the second word comes after in the alphabet for the last letter in the last word.
From this, it's figured that "sits ?ith a ??ag" is the most appropriate, and from this can determain that the second word is "with" so it becomes "sits with a a ??ag"
By then observing the pattern that travels each letter forward in the alphabet it can be told that the after a letter contains a swirly line it goes into a lightning line and from the "opposite day" word, we know that "e" has two swirly lines which will turn into two lightning lines, which is the first letter of the last word in the code so it must be - "sits with a flag".

Thanks for the guide but he already explained in the thread, almost got the third one, just not sure what the main hint is...

I had him post how he did it to see a different perspective in cracking it.
Good luck though! :D
