Bill Gates' views on Cryptocurrency (As per his Reddit AMA) - BlueLight™ - Feb 10, 2014
Quote:The foundation is involved in digital money but unlike Bitcoin it would not be anonymous digital money. In Kenya M-pesa is being used for almost half of all transactions. Digital money has low transaction costs which is great for the poor because they need to do financial transactions with small amounts of money. Over the next 5 years I think digital money will catch on in India and parts of Africa and help the poorest a lot. I don't get the but about low transaction costs, as using something like cash has Zero? And surely the poorest places wouldn't have computers/internet access to use digital currencies. Anyway just my 2 cents

Bill Gates has a project underway to get hand powered laptops to 3rd world countries/poor countries. By the way he said his statement it sounds like the rest of the world will have adopted the digital trend by then; as richer countries are already getting into it.
