LATEST - Black screen after installed nvidia driver (going into startx) - Adolf Hipster - Mar 27, 2014 AS the title says. What shall I do? I managed to delete every trace of nvidia files and now my computer boots up as normal, but I still feel like I want the latest version of the nvidia driver installed on my system. Thanks in advance. * - Komodo - Mar 27, 2014 (Mar 27, 2014 08:00 AM)Adolf Hipster Wrote: AS the title says. There are many things Nvidia offers. What type of Driver, etc were you installing? I am going to need more information. * - Adolf Hipster - Mar 27, 2014 (Mar 27, 2014 08:04 AM)Komodo Wrote: There are many things Nvidia offers. What type of Driver, etc were you installing? Say if I am doing something wrong. I run "sudo lshw -C video" and it outputs this Code *-display Why does it say I have two display(s)? Btw, when it blacked out I downloaded the appropriate driver for NVS 4200M, but after installing and restarting I could not boot into unity. Should I get my drivers elsewhere? EDIT: This is a driver I havent tested yet. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/73221/en-us Matches my gpu + os and architecture. What do you think? * - Komodo - Mar 27, 2014 (Mar 27, 2014 10:54 AM)Adolf Hipster Wrote: Say if I am doing something wrong. For your drivers issue, it depends what the driver was for, what are you trying to get? As for your display issue, I would not worry to much about this, I can not see how this would effect your greatly. Since you uninstalled the driver that you wanted, and you have regained your normal OS, I would like to know what Driver, etc you want. Edit: for the new driver you have found, if it matches up perfectly install it. The black screen from the previous error could have been from things that were not compatible, etc. * - Adolf Hipster - Mar 27, 2014 (Mar 27, 2014 10:58 AM)Komodo Wrote: For your drivers issue, it depends what the driver was for, what are you trying to get? I dont know what specific driver version I want. I just want the latest possible driver for my gpu. I will try with this one now. * - Komodo - Mar 27, 2014 (Mar 27, 2014 11:01 AM)Adolf Hipster Wrote: I dont know what specific driver version I want. Make sure it is compatible, so you do not black screen again.
