Will a program run better in Dos/Command line than a GUI program? - SIM-1534439 - Apr 15, 2014 Will a program run better in Dos/Command line than a GUI program? If it's only basic and it doesn't need a GUI will it run better and more efficient and maybe slightly longer? * - White Light - Apr 15, 2014 Realistically, computers are so fast that it shouldn't make a difference. It doesn't take much processing power to create a GUI. However, if you're updating the GUI thousands of times per second, it'll probably be faster to do it via the console instead. * - Spritz - Apr 23, 2014 What White Light said kinda, As long as they are in separate threads it should make no noticeable difference. If you're trying to make it as efficient as possible then make sure to avoid interactions between the ui and the program as much as possible. E.g. If you're doing 100,000 tiny processes, don't print each one to console or to your gui, instead print once every 1% or something. Also terminals have more flexibility such as batch scripts and being controlled by other programs through the shell. |
