So basically, what are the best ways to wipe certain files off your hard drive for good. And what are the best ways 2 encrypt them?

The only way to really erase a file is to remove and replace the bits with something else, I think. As for encryption, http://www.truecrypt.org is what I think everyone uses now. 👍

OP, this should be in the crypto section of HF ->Cryptography, Encryption, and Decryption. I always suggest http://www.dban.org/ to wipe drives and I always suggest http://www.truecrypt.org to encrypt drives.
If you want to overwrite a file, you need to find the file header and figure out where it is located on your HDD or SSD. Then, you either overwrite the 0s and 1s by installing a program over it or just by writing to it randomly around 7 times.

Personally I wouldn't trust any of that foolishness always a way to find a file that links back to a time and day that it was accesd by you through an ip address. Always a way to trace something back to you.
