How can I find IP's for to put in Host File? (to block connection) - ricci07 - May 25, 2014

Hi,

Does anyone know where to get the IP's needed so a program can't "call home" or contacting it's servers?

I tried Wireshark, but don't think it has what I need and I also tried Microsoft's Process Monitor to pin point the application I wanted to get the IP connection for.

I used the little target and dropped it on the gui of the program I wanted and it filter everything else out apart from the application. But it doesn't show to IP's.

Do you know where people get them massive IP lists which you put in the host file?

I can't seem to find the IP's I need.

Thanks.

Reply to my own question for people

You can use currPorts from Nirsoft to find the ip/hostname/port

What was your original goal? To find which IP addresses a program was contacting? Or to stop a program from accessing the internet?

Yep :)

To stop programs contacting their 'home' server(s) to check validation, versions, etc

You can always try to Google the program or something to see, or try to ping the webserver and get it resolved to an IP address.

May I ask, what program are you looking at?

Block all ports. Block everything coming in and out of the network. Then only open what you need.
