Can anyone help me with a folder needing decryption? - Dardwizzle - Jun 2, 2014

Hi guys,

I put myself into a huge problem and I am looking for an expert to help me out. I encrypted a folder using Kryptel and now the stupid program keeps telling me I entered the wrong password... I need to access the data in this folder but I can only see at this point to force it somehow..

Here is what I can tell you..

I used a program called Kryptel to encrypt the folder.

The Cyper is AES key size 256 block size 128 Number of rounds 14 scheme Standard Cyphor Mode CTR or Counter

Please let me know if there is anything else I can give you. I really really need some help here, and I am hoping you guys can help....

Guys, this is a serious issue for me and this folder contains very personal data which is could lead me to get my identity stolen if everyone had access to it. I don't know if anyone here can help me, but I can tell you that if someone can, it will mean a lot to me and I will do what I need to to get the data back from it. Please let me know if anyone can help me...

Thanks!

Are you sure that this program doesn't use any other type of encryption or decryption?

What you could do is attempt to decrypt the whole thing using a different program, same crypto algo, and see what happens.

Well, the problem is, that is what it how it was encrypted. I would figure that I would need someway to create a password unless someone can decrypt the file for me... I don't know.. I am really at a loss on this. I would mean the world to me if some one could help me get my files from the encrypted files. I know absolutely nothing about how to do this. I am to the point of offering to pay someone to help me decrypt it.

Are you 100% sure that you remember your old password?

* - Dardwizzle - Jun 2, 2014

I have tried the password and every combination of it I can think of, and the Kryptel program keeps telling me that it is invalid... So am I 100% I know the password? At this point I am not 100% sure I do or not. :( I thought I did, but Kryptel keeps telling me it's wrong hence why I can't decrypt it :(

OTL you had to use something that is not open source. I always suggest against using closed source cryptography programs because they tend to have more exploitable things than open source (we are assuming both are widely used).

http://www.kryptel.com/articles/data_recovery.php if you can use this, this is your best bet. Otherwise you might be screwed, let me think of something.

Sadly, I already contacted Kryptel. They said that there is no backdoor to the encryption and that the program that your referring too is 1. only available to premier owners of the app which I don't have a premier license, I have a basic...

And trust me, had I known I would have had this kind of problem, I would never have used it in the first place. Is there a way to run some kind of strong password hack? These are all the things I know nothing of. I am hoping that someone out there, some 10 year old mega hacker, who hacked his refrige to fetch him a beer... That's what I am hoping for.... I really need these files, this so sucks! Kryptel is telling me that based on what they looked at, I may have type-oed my password and now I have no clue what it is. I have an idea and a range of letters that could be used as some kind of range in order to force the password. I am willing to offer a reward to whom ever can get my files back for me. I have pretty nice gadgets laying around and if someone can get my files back, I will send that person the gadget of choice completely free, but only if I am able to access my files again... I know this probably violates a Forum rule or so, but I need it to be clear how much I need this data. With out it I am screwed. :( I wish I never decided to trying encrypting something. Oh this soooooo sucks... Please please,

If I can offer any additional info, please let me know before I start to cry!

Hey man, don't worry. You aren't the first person where shit when down wrong, and you won't be the last. For now, take a breather.

First, have you ever decrypted this folder?
Second, can you post on this thread your password that you used to encrypt this folder?

This was the first time I have ever used this program to be honest, so it was an experiment gone bad...

The password should be D@rdw!zzl# or somewhere there abouts...

I appreciate your help.... and I am not kidding on the reward. That's how bad I need these files. :(

Okay, give me some time. I downloaded the program, and now I'm going to do some test runs and see what happens.

I'm going to guess you don't have any saved backups of these files.

Sadly no I havent any back up unless I am lucky enough to have it in a restore point prior to encrypting the data. I had no idea that when I encrypted the folder that it would take those files and not leave them for me to remove once I knew that the encryption worked. Again this was my first time even trying this and I feel stupid for not having a back up . Like I said unless it is there in a past system restore which would suck to take me back on everything and not just this folder and files.

Hey all,

My Laptop has been down for a number of days due to unrelated issues. I was just wondering if anyone happens to have an update on this? Can you advise if there is anything else I can add that may help?

Thanks!

So, there is nothing that we can do with your folder, sorry OP.

As for the other problems, I suggest posting in this section-> https://hackforums.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=110
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'my laptop is down' but they can help you.

Thanks for trying... I was afraid you were going to tell me that. As for my computer issue, I fixed that. Computer repair is the one thing I am an expert at. Things like encryption, not so much :(

Oh well, I am not sure what to do that this point. Do you know by chance if there is a way to see exactly what is in that folder? This way I can try to recover the data from somewhere else. Thanks!
