[Clarification] MalwareBytes is NOT an antivirus - Cyber Saint - Jun 11, 2014

Greetings contributors and lurkers of the White Hat Help section. It seems that more and more people are recommend MalwareBytes, which is totally fine, but the issue is - they are recommend it as an antivirus or they are recommend it at times that it is not needed to be using an anti-malware software. Specifically in threads where people are asking what antivirus application they should use, or something along the lines of that nature, they recommend MalwareBytes. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware is an anti-malware tool like the name suggests.

This is the definition of an antivirus software:

Information on what MalwareBytes is and does:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malwarebytes'_Anti-Malware

A broad explanation of anti-malware:

Please in the future do not recommend Malware-Bytes as an anti-virus when it is in fact not. As much as I love MB, it just isn't what it is for, they have their own uses. And while they are easily confused, and similar to some, they have differences and they need to be noted. If you plan on helping out here, keep this in mind.

Lots of love,

Yea, like I said in the thread, MBAM stands for MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, not MalwareBytes Anti-Virus.

Also Cyber trust me, no matter how many threads we create on this, it will always comeback. It will never end. A bit like members testing their stubs on their own system and not in a VM.

You manually test it on a old isolated computer that you have on your network with no network permission and share, obviously hurt durr.
