Spring 2014 Anime post-season thread - Ryuujinx - Jun 29, 2014 So we're -basically- out of Spring 2014 season, with most shows finishing up. So I figured since I had the before and three episode threads, I might as well make another for post-season. Plus it's something to discuss that isn't the 53rd "Recommend me an Anime" thread of the day. :| I'll go ahead and start: Black Bullet: Rating 7/10 The show was pretty good, but it had some issues with pacing and with the tone. In one moment we have a harem of lolis, and then the next they're getting blown up with a bomb. We go from a brutal murder scene, to Enju being a moeblob. I still enjoyed the show a lot, but it will overall be forgettable. Brynhildr in the Darkness: Rating 8/10 I like this show a lot, but there's a bit too much fan service which ruins the overall tone of the show. They introduce side characters and immediately kill them off, and the fact that it took like 8 episodes for the MC to -actually- realize "Oh she is my childhood friend derp" even after he knows she loses memory. That said, it was a good ride and I would recommend it. Hitsuga no Chaika: Rating 9/10 Chaika? Yes. Chaika. I really like this show. Like a lot. The characters are all fleshed out well, the universe is really interesting, there's a lot of depth below the surface and the story is good. I'm looking forward to S2. Knights of Sidonia: Rating 5/10 I really don't know why I kept watching this. I think it's because they're pretty good at cliffhangers. The animation is all CGI and it looks awful. I can look past that, but the characters aren't very compelling, the story is "There's some aliens that want to kill us, so we have to kill them when they come by". I guess if you like the genre you might enjoy this. Mahouka(The Irregular and Magical Highschool): Rating 6/10 Let me say up front, that I really enjoy this show. It's fun and silly. But it's not very good. The main character is as generic as possible, his "Weaknesses" aren't actually weaknesses. I enjoy an overpowered MC from time to time, but man. Every other character might as well not exist because any time they might actually have to do something on their own he comes to save the day. But it's silly fun and has a lot of technobabble about how magic works, and the universe is neat. Also some of the girls are cute. Also, I swear to god if I hear one more Onii-sama I'm going to punch a fucking kitten. Mekaku City Actors: Rating 8/10 It's uh. SHAFT. I mean, you either like the studio or you don't. The characters are well thought out and the story is good enough. Let's be honest, we just watch this because of the studio. It's nothing amazing, but it's not bad either. Nanana's Buried Treasure: Rating 9/10 I don't know what I expected out of this show. For a moeblob in Nanana? For some dumb plot? I don't know. But instead I got a really well thought out main character and an extremely interesting story. Nanana is anything but a moeblob and is a likable character. The other characters are great. There's just enough mix between comedy and world and character building that it's just a really enjoyable show. I would recommend this to most people. No Game No Life: Rating 9.5/10 The only thing I can say is that there's probably a bit too many bath scenes and fan service. But this show is still fantastic. The world is amazing, the characters are amazing. Jibril is best girl. Steph is a steph. I could rant about this show for paragraphs. But I won't. Just go watch it. Soul Eater Not!: Rating 7/10 It's K-On + Soul Eater. If you like Moe Slice of Life shows, then you'll like it. If you don't, then you won't. Not much else to say about this one. So what'd the rest of you end up watching and how'd you feel about it now that it's either over or only has an episode or two left? * - Angеl - Jun 29, 2014 Nanana's Buried Treasure and Mekaku City Actors were my favorite by far from this season. I've been meaning to watch No Game No Life for awhile now, I just haven't got around to it yet. * - Gladly - Jun 29, 2014 I'd give NGNL less than a 9.5. It was great, but not sure about 9.5. I'd personally give it an 8.5. As for the rest of the Spring season, not too impressive aside from one or two shows. I liked the Winter and Fall seasons slightly better. * - Tedeschi - Jun 29, 2014 Ping Pong The Animation was definitely an outstanding anime. 10/10 for me, the last few episodes are the best thing I've seen in a while and the ending was superb. Should give it a watch it's only 11 episodes. * - zSteve - Jun 29, 2014 Thank you for making this now I know which animes to watch first. 👍 * - cacnecac - Jun 29, 2014 Lets see I dropped Mekacity actors or whatever, soul eater not was pretty garbage 1/10. Other then that NGNL 9/10 Black Bullet 7/10 Chaika 8/10 Sordedomo wa Utchi. 8/10 B in darkness 7/10 Mangaka to Assistant 9/10 NGNL - Because every episodes other then 2 of them were intense and fun to watch. Black Bullet - Reminded me of another anime I forgot the name, plus the episode with the deaths. ( I don't wanna spoil it ) Chaika - This one was one of the suprised one, because of the last episode, it was epic and season 2 this fall. Sordedomo U W. - If all romance anime were like this and ended like this I would be happy . B in Darkness - Decent with some decent fight scenes , story was super rush and confusing if you read the manga. Mangaka to ass. - Short anime filled with pure comedy, if you don't like eechi then u'll probably won't like it. Lets be clear I'm a huge huge SHAFT fan, but I dropped Mekacity actors, I really didn't like it for some reason I just kinda fell asleep throught the first few episodes, i'll prolly pick it back up. * - Gladly - Jun 29, 2014 (Jun 29, 2014 04:50 PM)cacnecac Wrote: Lets be clear I'm a huge huge SHAFT fan, but I dropped Mekacity actors, I really didn't like it for some reason I just kinda fell asleep throught the first few episodes, i'll prolly pick it back up. I feel the same way, it's not just you. I love SHAFT, but I wasn't really feeling it with this one. I still have an episode or two to finish it, but it hasn't really been too impressive for me. * - Chitoge - Jun 29, 2014 I happen to agree with most of your review. Somethings I could disagree with but most of it was on point. I happen to like a lot of these animes, regardless if it was fan service or such, although I agree there is a bit too much. I enjoyed Chaika & No Game No Life as well, mostly because they were both though out and executed amazingly. I liked some of the animes you called silly and such, Black Bullet and Irregular but happen to agree with your comments. As I said earlier, your review is on point and I can't really disagree with it. * - cacnecac - Jun 29, 2014 OH yeah I forgot Mahouka 6/10 until the action picks up and the drama picks up. Otherwise its just the MC showing off his big dick... thats about it. * - Black Hole - Jun 29, 2014 (Jun 29, 2014 05:05 PM)Gladly Wrote: I feel the same way, it's not just you. Pretty sure because the animation was actually slightly annoying. I know SHAFT is known for some crazy animation styles but this just put me off. Well...that and the fact that this is a dialogue based anime with no eye candy. No shady camera angels and no ungodly cute lolis to distract from the boredom. * - Dragon. - Jun 29, 2014 I didn't really tune in this season. Thanks for the review. I know what shows to catch up on now :) BTW, does anyone know when Oregairu's second season will be airing? * - Sasaki Haise - Jun 29, 2014 Mahouka is going to get A L O T better when they actually bring in the real antagonist. I don't know why it's on hiatus atm. * - cacnecac - Jun 30, 2014 (Jun 29, 2014 10:21 PM)Sojin Wrote: Mahouka is going to get A L O T better when they actually bring in the real antagonist. No thats really not the real antagonist, don't want to spoil it you'll see it'll probably be around episode 23 when you really see who the evil fuk is. * - Programmargorp - Jun 30, 2014 This season was disappointing at best. Highest scores were 8, most other seasons get at least one 9. Here's the rundown for me (Note that this list only contains completed series): Akuma no Riddle - 4/10 This crap needs more explanation. Pacing was horrible at best, action scenes weren't as good as they could have been, story ended on pretty much a deus ex and made like no sense. Also, for a Yuri series, there's surprisingly little yuri. Bokurawa Minna Kawaisou - 8/10 This one was pretty good. Art was top notch and characters were designed well. Comedy was good too. Although story didn't really get anywhere. Date A Live II - 3/10 AIC Plus pls. Why is the second season so much crappier than the first? Art degraded, story degraded, characters degraded and there wasn't nearly enough Kurumi screen time. Hitsugi no Chaika - 3/10 Generic shounen. Generic story, generic characters, generic art. I really expected more, but there's nothing there to praise. Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san - 1/10 Nothing much to say. It was horribad. Kenzen Robo Daimidaler - 1/10 Never before have I seen a show so pointless and bad. Ending was possibly one of the worst endings I've ever seen. Mangaka-san to Assistant-san - 5/10 Generic comedy, nothing much to say that at least it was enjoyable as a generic comedy. Mekakucity Actors - 7/10 The ending to the story sucks, hard. Pacing near the end had massive issues. SHAFT (being the best studio ever) can only carry a series so far. No Game No Life - 7/10 Has some pacing issues, riding the Hype Train way too much. At least it didn't turn out to be complete crap like Sword Ass Online or Shingeki no Deus Ex. Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin - 5/10 Generic, moe, generic, moe, when is this going to end? Ending was cliched as crap and the MC is the most useless one I've ever seen. Seikoku no Dragonar - 2/10 Please explain how they can make something so generic that Zero no Tsukaima pales in comparison in terms of genericness? Sidonia no Kishi - 8/10 Some of you probably hate the 3D that they went for. I personally love the way they did the mech. The fight with Benisuzume could have been better (like it was in the manga), but it was still good. Also, season 2 greenlit <3 Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 3/10 Worst adaption I have ever seen. #1 disappoint 2013. Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara - 6/10 Generic 101. Wasn't all that bad though. Overall, this season is probably has the lowest average out of any season I've done so far =__= * - Obli - Jun 30, 2014 ![]() NO. I have never watched anything from Shaft, nor do I want to. I watched mekaku because of the Kagerou Project songs. And if you did read the manga/listened to the songs, you will know that you're blessed with such an ending because usually it sucks so much more. |
