First of all, you post in the wrong section, we have a section dedicated to Windows 8/8.1. That was a really stupid thing to do OP, just saying. You NEVER interrupt an operation like that, see where it leads you ? Anyway, where you trying to format your HDD in order to reinstall Windows 8.1 ? * - $lick Sloth - Jul 2, 2014 Never ever EVER interrupt something like that. Anything that is making changes to Windows files should NEVER be interrupted, as it usually leaves your computer in an unusable / broken state. Do you by chance have another PC? If you do, just burn Darik's Nuke and Boot (http://www.dban.org/download) to a DVD and follow the instructions here: http://www.ucd.ie/itservices/itsupport/itsecurity/securitytools/howtousedbantoremovethecontentsfromaharddisk/. Aura may have a better way, and if gives you a way that is different than this, listen to him since he has training. * - Aura - Jul 2, 2014 (Jul 2, 2014 11:55 AM)Unbalanced Wrote: Never ever EVER interrupt something like that. You can actually format a partition or HDD during the installation process of Windows, which is way easier and you save a lot of time and resources too. * - Tranquility - Jul 2, 2014 Assuming from what I read he has the 8.1 installation, but 8.0 installation media. That won't work for recovery, but can be used for a fresh installation after formatting the drive. * - Polymath 1.0 - Jul 2, 2014 Download PartedMagic http://partedmagic.com/ and use YUMI http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/ to write it to a USB Flash drive. Boot from that Flash drive and INSPECT ONLY your HD for the presence of a Manufacturer's Factory Recovery Partition on that HD. If it is still there then you should be able to use the Manufacturer's factory restore provision to return your machine to the factory delivered state. To invoke the manufacturer's recovery you will need to press and hold a key specific to your particular computer either while turning on the power OR immediately after turning on the power. Either state your computer make and model or consult the website of your manufacturer and download the user manual as it will detail the process and key required to invoke the factory restore. BTW if a laptop ensure the power adapter is plugged in and this time LET IT COMPLETE unless you want to brick your computer 😠If your HD was corrupted and the factory recovery partition and option is no longer viable you will have no other recourse than to reinstall your O/S from external media. Take care * - $lick Sloth - Jul 10, 2014 (Jul 2, 2014 11:58 AM)Aurа Wrote: You can actually format a partition or HDD during the installation process of Windows, which is way easier and you save a lot of time and resources too. My best advice is to put the drive into the another pc, backup your info and reinstall. * - Aura - Jul 11, 2014 (Jul 11, 2014 12:04 AM)HackerNoobien Wrote: My best advice is to put the drive into the another pc, backup your info and reinstall. That's one shitty advice ... we didn't even start troubleshooting yet that you recommend a format and reinstall ? I hate people like you, you have no troubleshooting knowledge at all making all your advices bad and horrible. |
